Hey guys, just to say that this entry route is definitely possible. I was studying Biomed at newcastle and in first year I applied through UCAS to study medicine (2013/2014 intake), I applied for the internal transfer route at Newcastle as well but was unsuccessful. I received an offer from Southampton and an interview from Exeter. A friend from my biomed course did the exact same and now we're both studying medicine in Southampton together. A few things though, obviously there is the huge financial cost, but also it's quite difficult to be in one place and be hoping to go to another for most of the year, so prepare yourself for an agonising wait, especially when your friends are organising housing etc for next year. And also, I just think a gap year would be a far better route for anyone at all unsure coming out of school, as it just completely keeps your options open. Also, make it very very clear on your personal statement about what's changed/happened to make you apply now, I know its obvious but just be explicitly clear. But yea, it can happen and I've heard of quite a few people who have managed to get in this way.
