But saying that, compare Radiohead to most alternative bands and there couldn't be a much greater difference in talent and musicianship, right?
no not at all, the problem is most alternative bands dont get passed their second album because ***** think "oh they're getting popular now they're sold us out they're ****" just like what happened to kings of leon.

I listened to up the bracket once. Whatever the noise was for the first 5 seconds just put me off the rest

What happened with KoL following Only By The Night was ridiculous. Just because two of the singles were played and played over and over doesn't make them any less a band, yet the fanboys decided that Kings of Leon were no longer a good band because of it.

But beside the point - the reason that The Libertines never got past the second album was because of drug problems inside the band that caused friction between the members and the eventual breakup.

Love me some pretentious indie shizzle

I am ridiculously excited about Kele from Bloc Partys solo album 'The Boxer' Comes out on June 21st. Waheyy (:

Oh and if you want some good, slightly more obscure stuff then check out Heartsrevolution. They're pretty electro rather than guitar alternative stylie.

assuming you're a fan of radiohead, how exactly is it possible to like the libertines? There couldn't be a much greater difference in talent and musicianship.

    I dont even
I don't see why 'musicianship' even matters. As long as it sounds good, why care about how they play their instruments? And The Libertines sound really good. The best bands were formed out of passion for music and learned to play together rather than having a selection of excellent musicians that are more concerned with showing of their ability rather than making people feel with their music.

I've seen Bloc Party a few times as well. Is Pin Me Down Russell's side project? I never got round to listening to their stuff.

    15 Step - Radiohead

I love Thom Yorke, the acidity of his voice is beautiful.

    Yeah it's Russell's.
'Time Crisis' is a little slice of guilty pleasure , it's relentlessly catchy with a cute riff in the background. Check it out

Wow, guilty pleasure indeed :P Quite a new direction for Russell, very electropop. I like it though.

I play guitar grade V, keyboard, drums and bass and I don't think bands like The Libertines 'don't sound good'.

That said, I don't really have any recent obsessions. I just like the band "Fleeting Joys" who are "My Bloody Valentine" copycats but "Fleeting Joys" are doing a wonderful job at copying the style and everything. I don't mind.

Since when did not playing instruments mean people can't appreciate music? If a song is good enough how it is played won't matter. Many demos sound better than the re-recorded versions because they capture a moment in a band's history that can't be recreated, even if the recording is fuzzy and the singer is off-key. It's much more real.

    I'll join! For funsies!

Im getting back into Gaslight Anthem at the moment. Do they count as indie? Either way, I do truly love them! I might have to look up some of these bands people are mentioning! Im rather lacking in new music right now!

since the dawn of music thats when duh.

you've tried to appreciate music, but sadly got it wrong. The thought of pete doherty and his chums being role models for britains youth sickens me. And so does every moment in their history, as if any of their history mattered whatsoever.

So if mozart or bach put in a wrong note just to **** up the brass section it would have been considered much more real?

You do realise playing things wrong makes you a bad musician. Why would you get rewarded more for not doing your job properly?

That's not the point of alternative music. Someone could be an amazing musician, but if their songs are boring, no-one's going to fall in love with them. The Libertines played an important role in the early 2000s music scene not for their musicianship but because they were able to inspire an unusual level of devotion in their fans. Radiohead achieved the same feat because their music made people feel the same way, not because people were in awe of the way they play their instruments.

I think you need to stop being so elitist about the 'ability' to play instruments and its supposed link to being able to appreciate music. In the words of The Indelicates "This gift is an illusion, this isn't hard/ Absolutely anyone can play the ******* guitar."

Alright you indie/alternative perfectionsts, can someone suggest me some more bands? I love Brett Dennen and Matt Costa, their calm style of music - especially with a guitar - is my absolut favorite in the genre. But I also enjoy listening to Muse, Dave Matthews Band ('You might die trying' is an amazing song, the lyrics are okay, the vocals are great and the guitar mind-blowing), . However, I can't stand that poppy stuff like Arctic Monkeys and scouting for girls
