I'm looking for some 'alternative bands', but I don't know where to start. Will trawl through this thread, but does anyone have some personal favourites, perhaps bands that got them into the whole style?

I'm not entirely sure what constitutes 'alternative' but some of the stuff in here sounds pretty good

That's really helpful mate, cheers for the list

Already heard some cinema club before, and Noah and the Whale appeared on the radio a few times. Heard of the Vaccines but never given a proper listen, thanks again! *reps*

    ... Amazing
Every song on that album is sublime. Saw them live at Manchester Cathedral. Easily the greatest venue I've seen a band. The acoustics of the cathedral complimented Wild Beasts' vocals beautifully.

I'm liking Charles at the moment, looks like he's about to burst into the chart scene with some of his more 'pop' based songs. This is my favourite by him though; hopefully he's 'alternative' to warrant a link in this thread.

Edit: Somebody doesn't like King Charles...maybe people will prefer his cover of We didn't start the fire? He did it from a British perspective, I thought it was cracking

Tiny indie labels are brilliant. The Onsind album I bought for £5 from Discount Horse Records arrived today along with a Taxpayers album thrown in for free! I already felt that it was too cheap for a CD, but for two it's just ridiculous. I'm never using Amazon again.

I saw The Cast of Cheers and Theme Park live the other day. The Cast of Cheers had an amazing stage presence an their new material is definitely a step up from their (somewhat forgotten) first album. I can see Theme Park going a long way as their music and live performances are very mellow and chilled out compared to The Cast of Cheers.
All in all, The Cast of Cheers were my personal favourites. Plus the band are really nice to talk to!

This song is just so lovely and summer-y, looking forward to seeing them twice this summer.

The whole album is great, and I am surprised I liked it as I was never a big fan of Dum Dum Girls.

Also, has anyone got School of Seven Bells new album Ghostory? I got it the other day and cannot decide if I like it as much as their previous albums. It is still certainly good, I just hope it grows on me more.
