Re: Surrey accomadation!
I lived in Battersea Court (band c) in my first year (last year). It was great! There were 14 of us on each floor. In my year there were 9 boys and 5 girls
It's convenient for everything on campus, good price and and a great atmosphere. If you are in to partying, go for battersea or stag hill, they are renowned for it! I wasn't much of a 'hardcore' partier though and I didn't find it a problem living in 'party' accommodation. So it's all good whatever your preference.
Also - re sharing bathrooms/showers etc. I thought it would be really horrible (when I applied for accommodation I applied for ensuite and got none of my first choices...) and I was really worried about it before I moved in (im a fussy person!! haha) but it was fine. Better than fine, it was great! In battersea cleaners come in 3 times a week to clean kitchens/showers/toilets/hallways and they always did a great job. Never had any problem getting a shower (I was worried there would be fights for them but they were only ever all in use ONCE, and that was a night when all 14 of us were going out).
All in all, Battersea is by far the best court to live in for all round student experience

Re: Surrey accomadation!
hi i've got a conditional for psychology and surrey is my firm. i need to for apply accomodation but still have no idea. i can't afford more than band c and it's compulsary i'm on campus. What is the best place where i can get a really good student experience, decent rooms, party ish atmosphere (but not ALL the time) and close to basically everything lol?

Re: Surrey accomadation!I don't know if anyone can help really seeing as if you pick C you'll get put in 1 of 5 random places.. And B on campus means Guildford Court which is 'budget'. It looks like it just means less space and less light but without a first hand account I was doubtful.. so I flipped a coin. Band C it is(Original post by TeamPrincess)

Re: Surrey accomadation!I'd say a go for a band C... theres a difference in room size or shape, bathroom arrangements and kitchen but i'd say they would all give roughly give the same experience (as i'm pretty sure there is no survey and its all one pool of a band then allocation right?).(Original post by TeamPrincess)

If you are worried about bathrooms, i'd say Stag Hill, if not there is Battersea, Surrey and Cathedral which I think were all created with the same idea in mind. Not sure about kitchen size in the the last 3, I know Stag Hill isn't a bad size for 10 people (albeit smaller than the Band D space for 10).
To be honest changing where you are doesn't really effect massively what you can access on campus it is all really easy to get to the only more prominent things may be Stag Hill to station/channies side, surrey to hillside (restaurant), cathedral & battersea to library and the campus entrance (the way to Tesco)....
however it is like a 1 minute difference.... it really won't effect you about being close to stuff! -
Re: Surrey accomadation! If it lets you submit it then it's probably fine.(Original post by gemzw2010)
btw it says u should choose first 5 choices of halls iv only wrote 2 cause i dont fancy any other one's. is that a problem does ne1 know????? :/
I doubt you won't get either first and second choice unless you applied seriously late and went for ones like band E where theres only a small amount of rooms. -
Re: Surrey accomadation!I'd really like to know this too. I get the impression from comments on other unis that even though rules say they must get a guest room things in reality are a lot more relaxed. But if anyone who actually goes to Surrey can confirm this that'd be great. If not long distance relationships would be a nightmare(Original post by Emylaa)
Can you have people (i.e family n boyfriends) come and stay over in your rooms? or do you actually have to put them in the guest accomadation?

Re: Surrey accomadation!Boyfriends/Girlfriends can stay in your room with no problem. Family/other friends are cool if you're happy to share a bed with them or shove them on the floor.(Original post by Blue_bottle)

I had people over all the time and nobody batted an eyelid. You'll be fine as long as it doesn't become a ridiculously long stay! -
Re: Surrey accomadation!Basically as long as it isn't too long/often it is generally fine.(Original post by Blue_bottle)

Had my end of year room check with someone over, they didn't care. -
Re: Surrey accomadation!Pretty sure there is a list on the uni website or there used to be.....(Original post by Abira)
Hey Guys, I got a Band c room in Tate House, Battersea Court (I'm Room 1 on Level 4 ). I'm just wondering whether the university provides the following in the accommodation...i.e. stuff like desk lamps, ironing boards, kettles, toasters, rice cookers etc......Thanks
From what I remember
Room
There is:
Desk Lamp
Telephone (Freewire, you will find out when you get there, you can call other people in campus accommodation for FREE, which is amazingly useful!)
Internet point
Partial belongings insurance (it doesn't cover everything, you should check what it does cover, I remember it wasn't great)
There is not:
Bedding (I think this is starting this year that they are no longer providing bedding, I think this includes pillows also...)
Kitchen
There is:
Toaster
Microwave
Kettle
Ironing board
Iron
There is not:
Rice cookers (really?)
Probably forgotten something, if I did someone add it
EDIT: great called 'Freewire', Freeview bit of a fail thereLast edited by The Beaver; 16-02-2011 at 00:39. -

Re: Surrey accomadation!IIRC they are outside of the room next to your wash basin and shower room/toilet.(Original post by rawwr_jessie)
Heya i was just looking at the virtual tour of the rooms and is there no wardrobe in the band c rooms at stag hill??
After you enter a Stag Hill house there is an open area, then you go into sections for rooms A&B, C&D or E&F (or you go upstairs to the kitchen and other rooms). In each of these areas (say A&B) there is a (lockable) door into the area, then there is a door to the shower/toilet (can't remember if they are separate rooms, but you only share it with one other person anyways!), then there is also your wash basins and doors to your actual rooms.
So only you and the person you share you section with can get to where you toilet, bathroom and wash basins are and only you can get into the wardrobe and bedroom themselves.
Hope someone can correct me if I made an error....
