Re: The "Am I Good Enough For Dentistry" Megathread
Hi, im in year twelve and would like to know how good do you think my application will be and where i should apply,
GCSEs: 6A*s, 5As
AS Levels: Looks like Im gonna get, Maths:A, Bio:A, Chem:B(Teacher said shed predict me an A), Psychology:A
A Level Predictions: A*AA, At LEAST AAA.
UKCAT: Just booked it
Work exp: 8 Weeks(1dayperweek) Aesthtics dentist, (shall i get more?)
Extras: 2 months volounteering helping younger years at my school play football, 2 years helping kids at a church with english and mathematics, 1 year working at a cash and carry(haha) stock taking, invoices etc, play football
Im very good at interviews also haha -
Re: The "Am I Good Enough For Dentistry" MegathreadIs that 8 weeks in a dentist or a care home? You need to be a bit more specific, if its a dentist it is not enough, I believe liverpool (don't quote me on this) but they specify it needs to be equivalent to 14 days instead of 2 weeks, so while the 8 weeks might sound a lot, if its only 1day/week then it is not enough.(Original post by teen1234)

I also agree I need to get more dental w/e. Do you think I have enough 'volounteering' type things to apply? Also, will the B at AS in Chemistry hinder my application even if im predicted an A? Where would you recommend me applying to with my stats?
-
Is a B not good enough?
Hi, I reeeeaaaally want to study Dentistry at university. I am already on track for getting an A in Biology and English A level (and I already have my French A level at grade A) but the problem is it looks like I'll only manage a B in chemistry. Will universities still accept me for Dentistry? :/

I don't think your AS Chemistry grade will be seen on your UCAS form, as it is only predicted grades which are used and as you are continuing Chemistry to A2, it will be the predicted A2 grade that will be seen by universities and as long as that is an A your application will be fine.
Good luck for your results, you never know you might have done better than you thought in your Chemistry exams

Re: Can I apply with these predictions?Have you checked entry requirements at each university you are interested in? If your predictions meet the requirements then yes you will be considered(Original post by like a boss)
Are there any universities that will consider an AAB prediction?
A's in chem and geog, B in bio.
As far as i'm aware, only KCL will consider my application. -
Re: Can I apply with these predictions? No Universities consider AAB, because the minimum offer of all Universities for Dentistry is AAA.(Original post by like a boss)

It's unlikely that KCL will seriously consider your application, although on their website they say that their minimum offer is BBB, as far as I know they only lower their offer for people with extenuating circumstances. -

Yes Glasgow ask for AAB at A-level, but they do want the As in Biology and Chemistry though.(Original post by jojo1995)

Re: The "Am I Good Enough For Dentistry" MegathreadIs it one of the Biology modules at the moment that is letting you down, if there is you could speak to your teacher about resitting it, showing your committed to getting the required grades which might make your teacher realise how important it is to you to be predicted the A in biology!!(Original post by like a boss)
Any tips on persuading teachers to up your prediction? -
Re: The "Am I Good Enough For Dentistry" Megathread
yeah when I was at college I think it was fairly possible. I did it in chemistry, I had to sit down with the teacher and talk about how I was going to make sure I got an A and show that I was prepared to do extra work ect. Its worth just showing how important it is to you and your career choice

Re: The "Am I Good Enough For Dentistry" MegathreadI'm pretty sure that in reality Glasgow hardly ever ask for AAB anymore. I'm not sure why they still have that on their website and in prospectuses but it means that they haven't updated it. In the last year they started asking for AAA because they were the only school that didn't. A classmate of mine has firmed Glasgow AAA for Dentistry this year.(Original post by orange.bananna)

What are my chances of studying dentistry in 2013?
GCSE's: 3 A*s, 5 As, 2 Bs
AS predicted AAAb in maths, biology, chemistry and Spanish
By the time I apply I will have done 2 weeks work experience in NHS dentist and orthodontist and 4 further days as a weekly commitment.
I am volunteering in a care home for 3 hours a week and have a part time job as a receptionist.
I am a house captain at school, and have been dancing for 14 years and do national competitions. I also act and have done TV and film. I taught myself guitar.
