I am feeling OK about it probably the exam I am least concerned about. Got a B on family in January so it would be nice to get an A this time around and bump up my grade. I seem to have got quite a few A's in mocks and it would be good in case one of my grades slipped (I am predicted a D in RE and B in English). I need 280 UCAS points for my primary education degree I am verging towards doing.

Yes my mock result was quite good too but im unsure there is alot to remember this time round

I think im going to struggle on Ethnicity and underachievement most...seem to be ok at educational policies.

Well what kind of question do you want to know?

You now that question 2 asks you to look at one of two methods to do with education liek official stats or participant observation for 20 marks

Only talk about one of the two
and say thinks like practical issues cost accessibility time etc
ethical issues that may arise using such methods (obv with official stats there are'nt any)
say what theory it comes from i.e. positivists or interprevists why they like them positivists liek official stats as they are objective facts that are measureable etc
and dont forget general stregnths and limitations

as for Q3 just learn definitions for 2 makr Q and general adv and disadv of each method and the same stuff for q2 but with examples of anything used by anyone sorry that is confusing

well you bring in perspectives of postivist and interpretivist and each strength and weakness as long as described a little should get 2 marks

here try this link it is a lifesaver

learning tables for each method are amazing adv and disadv eat your heart out with clearly labelled practical or theoretical http://learningat.ke7.org.uk/socialsciences/soc-sci/soc/as/as.htm

good luck!

How was it for u guys?

I thought it was actually quite easy, i wrote 11 pages, i've never done a mock so i'm not sure what i will get. For question 2 i was annoyed with the options they gave, i chose group interviews but would rather of had participant observation as an option.

I think it went quite well! Could've been slightly better, but could've been tons worse! =) I wrote a fair bit (unsure as to how many pages) how many is in the answer booklet? I filled that +1 extra side of A4.

I was annoyed that I could answer everything with ease, and went mindblank on that first question >.< I remembered what compensatory education is AFTER the exam :'( meh, 2 marks :P
Yeah It was better than I expected to be honest i filled 10 pages and I am quite happy with it YAY pass here I come

I was happy with the paper and struggled abit with the first essay question. Think i did 13 pages
oh man da 1 question i dint wnt 2 cme up social policies had to show up, oh well i didin't do as bad as I thought on the first essay question. Except that i found the rest of exam easy and you people comparing pages WTF. ITS NOT ABOUT QUANTITY ITS ABOUT THE QUALITY

I so agree I really didn't xpect the first question which I think I did rubbish in

hey so what did u people put for the question on boys underachievement??

i put
a lack of male role models
feminisation of education i.e. introduction of coursework
and expectations of boys??

and the two factors affecting choice of study
again i put
whether funding is available
and the time and cost of the study to be taken and whether the skill of the researcher is good enough to carry it out??

this any good???

The question was, 'give 2 factors which affect the sociologists choice of topic' or something like that...and the time and cost of the study is a factor relating to the choice of method so I'm not sure if thats correct. But the available funding point seems ok..so u should get 2/4 for that..I wrote the same thing so i'm kind of gutted that i've lost 2 stupid marks!

The question was, 'give 2 factors which affect the sociologists choice of topic' QUOTE]

choice of topic could be sociologist's own specialisation e.g religion or current issues e.g. boy's recent underachievement in education or it could even be accidental e.g. started a study on something else but then along the way another topic caught their eye
