Awesome I like almost all variants of Jazz.
Although saying that, I espcially love jazz blues, hard bop, swing jazz and vocal jazz.
And to answer the Jamie Cullum one - I prefer Pointless Nostalgic

Man, a lot of Trad Jazz here (apart from Brecker...).

That is to be expected on a British (loosely speaking) forum here...

Album-wise, out of all Jamie Cullum's efforts, I think The Pursuit has to be my favourite one. I just find that his latest works are more focused on his rather original style-- an eclectic mix of Contemporary sounds with a strong Pop flavour and at times a faint influence of Folk as per his many contemporaries.

You can listen to the songs on Pointless Nostalgic, but when you start to listen to the general feel that Cullum is going for, you may find (I did, at least) that he takes too much of Trad format and tries to mix in it with Contemporary sounds. Although he manage make a success for the most of it, the niggles of too much brass (Too Close For Comfort) and not enough original material in the songs on that album can grate for those of us Jazz lovers who like to immerse themselves in the feeling and world on the songs.

Anyway, that's my two cents for now.

Anyway, my most listened to genre (`style` defines the technical details of the genres) at the moment is Contemporary Jazz. Think Jamie Cullum, Norah Jones (normally, when my playlist shuffles to her), Diana Krall, Melody Gardot, Silje Nergaard, Madeleine Peyroux (grassroots alternative to Norah Jones), Frank Lauber...

The genre that is my favourite, however, is Smooth Jazz. I am probably the only one of about dozen student-aged guys/girls in this coutry that likes this genre of Jazz (that weren't introduced to it by friends or at a party or something like that).

Enough of the dryness, though. In truth, Smooth Jazz is root of my `admiration` for Jazz. To many people, it sounds like, well, `elevator music`. You could be right for thinking that, especially when you hear some artists like Russ Freeman & The Rippingtons. For the most part, however, the music that is Smooth Jazz is a well-defined, stable blend of Pop, original R'n'B, Funk and Contemporary Jazz. It has it's critics but the following of the genre is strong and you need only look at the dozens of artists and bands (several of which who have made a name for themselves) who complement the genre.
