Implant / Implanon & Acne...

also, it may be worth noting that my acne was cleared completely by dianette, only a few spots when on period etc... will this be the same on the implant? (ALSO i am VERY moody, almost depressed, on dianette, will the implant be better?)

also, is the shot just like the implant? in hormones? would it be better to use, incase i got my acne back, then just come off it?

SO CONFUSED :eek3:

sorry for long post, and thankyou if you respond.

I used to be on Dianette, which cleared my spots up to almost nothing. Then I went on the Depo Injection, because I didn't want to be on the pill anymore.
My spots have come back a bit since. :\
I'm having the Implant at the end of June. No idea how it'll be. Might have to go on some other medication.

But if they do come back while on the Implant, you can take other medication for it, can't you? I can't remember the names of the tablets but there are ones specialised for acne.

You could always ask your doctor?
As soon as you come of dianette, your acne will come back like you would not believe. Good luck.
I used to have very bad acne, was on Dianette for it for about a year. The Dianette helped but only for as long as I was on it, eventually ended up having to get Roaccutane which got rid of it for good. I was on the injection until december and I got a few more spots than usual, the injection doesnt give you any protection from acne, it can actually make it worse. Dianette is the only hormonal contraception that is considered to be a useful treatment for acne. I'm now using implanon and my spots have gone again. I think that this is because implanon gradually releases much lower levels of progesterone than the injection (which is basically just a huge depot of progesterone every 12 weeks).

Well, I had the implant put in about 18 months ago and still have it in. I can't say its been the best thing i've ever done. I love it because its totally hassle free but where I didn't really have a skin problem before, I definitely get more spots now. It made me MASSIVELY moody for the first couple of months, my sex drive went away, oh yeah and I have pretty much had a constant period since I had it put in. Don't ask me why I still have it, lack of alternatives I suppose, but apparently its not like this for everyone  Sorry I can't be of much help but thats my experience of it anyway.

i went from dianette to the implant. in my opinion i dislike it but my doctor wants me to have it in for 3 months. i guess he wants me to get used to it. ive also had the injection which was better.
only my opinion though :\

I had the implant for the full 3 years, having had a bit of trouble with my acne (nothing too bad, just a few creams and things to deal with it). It got a bit worse when I had the implant in, but that coincided with me going to uni and eating worse/drinking more/sleeping less. Overall it wasn't a massive change, and when it bothered me I went to my GP and took a long term course of antibiotics to sort it out.

You can definitely still take all types of spot medication on the implant - I was offered roaccutane, but didn't fancy it.

ive had it in for 10 weeks so not long to go.i dont know it doesnt agree with me. too many spots and ive basically been on my period constantly. i dont think the nurse did a great job of putting it in either. on saying that i know some people who love it so its worth giving it a go.you cant see it or anything. just how your body reacts. xxx

Implanon I've found has a huge range of effects on different people, for some people it works brilliantly, and others it doesn't agree with them, best way to tell is to try it if you think that's what you want :yep:

Never heard of it clearing spots up, as you say Dianette is the one I've heard people have for spots, I have a slight increase in number of spots since being on the implant...but considering my skin was almost completely clear before it hasn't been bad for me

Try talking to your doctor about both solutions to both your acne and contraception, they'll know a lot more about what's likely to work :yep:

thanks guys.

i think ill change pill first, to see how i deal with higher progesterone levels.

then try the implant if all is ok.
Hi, I used to be on dianet too for acne, I went on the implanon and my skin has been fine for 2.5 years and now my acne has come back really bad. I have had 2 types of anti biotics for the acne and neither have worked so far. I am going to get the implanon out early to see if there is any changes as I think it is due to it. Anyone had a similar thing?
OMG this is me. But my implant is due to come out in 2 months. I think it's just wearing off.
Hi .i was on dianette when i was younger with suffering mild acne .im now in my thirties and had my first implant fitted a couple of months ago were ive been fine mood wise .my teen acne has come bck .i dont know whether it is the implant or the fact ive put on nearly three stone since having it fitted .when they told me i wouldnt gain weight .it could be both .but i been having a few problems with it and the greasy skin and sweats of a night is the main reason and spots that im now thinking of having it removed .ive also started to have cramps again like the begining and slight bleeding ive already made a appoinent to have it removed soon .it may work for you but i am thinking of going bck to the imjection or normal pill coz i cant cope any longer .i hope this helps .but as i said it may be different for you .
