Language as an extra-curricular

I was thinking about studying French next year at my uni, as an extra subject (ie: it won't count towards my degree). I have a GSCE in the language already.

The only issue is that next year is my final year. Has anyone had experience of this - juggling a language course with their finals, dissertations, etc? Is it manageable? The course is two/three hours teaching per week and then the recommended private study is 8 hours per week. If anyone who's studied a language this way can tell me anything about it I'd be grateful. Thanks.
