Re: Interrailing in the summer? That's generally the case in the Schengen area, though I have run into passport-demanding police on public transport in France and Germany.(Original post by Guru Jason)
Western and middle Europe should be fine though. My passport wasn't checked across any border except going out and into the UK. -
Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice SuperthreadDüsseldorf is recommendable for its traditional beer type, Altbier. Picnic on the Rhine bank would also be quite nice. Apart from that and being a bourgeois shopper's paradise, there's not a great deal more going for it. I found Cologne far more interesting.(Original post by Kevmeister)
Koln - you have the cathedral, cruises on the river and its a nice town to go out in. There's a museum right by the cathedral, and lots of nice, cheap places to eat. I found Dusseldorf very boring, can't recommend anything. Not been to Essen. -
Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice SuperthreadWill keep that in mind if I ever end up in the region again - though I think it's unlikely.(Original post by rockrunride)

Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice Superthread
Have just been investigated my train journeys for my interrailing trip and have come across a problem. The train journeys I need to make are:
18 July: Barcelona Sants > Montpellier Saint Roch
Montpellier Saint Roch > Marseilles St-Charles
19 July: Marseilles St-Charles > Nice Ville
20 July: Nice Ville > Milan Central
The two sites I've been using, DB Bahn and http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/query.exe/en?L=vs_inputgen& don't seem to be able to find any of those journeys on those days. I've contacted the interrailing sales team for advice, but not heard back yet - so thought here'd be as good a place as anywhere to ask.
Are the timetables not available yet? Should I look elsewhere? Or is it a case of these journeys won't exist on those particular days - in which case I'm in a bit of trouble. Thanks. -
Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice Superthread
Me and a group of friends are looking to go inter railing this summer. We were looking into buying the 22 day unlimited travel ticket. (http://www.interrailnet.com/interrai...il-global-pass)
Does anybody know if all trains will need reservations before you get on them or can you literally just hop on any of them that we might need? And if we have to make a reservation, can we make the reservation last minute and at what price would it cost?
Cheers -
Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice SuperthreadIt really depends. Some trains need reservations, some dont, some also require a supplement.(Original post by ixbenix)

I think usually for a couchette I've paid around 12 euro, although some standard trains (esp. in italy require a few euro fee). The most I paid was for the train from Amsterdam to Munich, that was 35 euro.
All my reservations were last minute, I don't think it makes much difference. -
Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice Superthread
Hey guys, any ideas when the new Thello night service from Paris Gare de Lyon to Milano Centrale will be covered by the Interrailing pass? It replaced the Artesia de Nuit train in December but at the moment it isn't covered by the pass. I don't fancy spending an extra €96 on a ticket!
Or if not, can you reserve the TGV Paris - Milan with the pass?
Thanks

Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice Superthread
Just booked my flights for my trip.
I'm flying from Glasgow to Berlin(I get to see the new shiny Brandenburg Airport) and then I'm flying back from Munich to Edinburgh.
I've changed my route because of the flights so I'm hoping to something like this;
Berlin > Prague > Ljubljana > Bled > Venice > Florence > Rome > Munich.
Getting excited already! -
Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice SuperthreadDid you ever find someone to travel with? Just curious (sorry if you've already said but I haven't looked at many of the other posts)(Original post by citylover)
Hey people!
My name is Luke and I'm from Manchester in England. I'm looking for an interrail buddy for this summer around July/August, doing pretty much the standard eastern european places eg prague, vienna, sarajevo etc. I'm 21, not fussy about the age of anyone who's interested, so long as they're up for a laugh and an adventure! Reply to this or PM me if interested

Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice Superthread
Hey guys, just wondering what your advice was on inter rail group sizes?
Was planning on going with 1 friends (itinary to follow), as we could not find anyone else who wanted to go...
We are going for 17 days, do you think this group size is too small, or will we meet people as we travel?
all advice appreciated
-
Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice SuperthreadI think you will be fine. If you start getting tired of each other you don't need to do stuff together as, if you're staying in hostels, you'll be able to meet a bunch of people who will be happy to go out with you instead.(Original post by kermatz)

I went interrailling with two other people and as I found three really is a crowd.
Just think, the more people you go with, the more compromise you will have to do over plans etc. I got really annoyed having to schedule in places that the three of us wanted to do.
When I travel again, I will go it alone: I can then do what I want, when I want. I also found it harder to meet people in hostels etc being with two other friends. -
Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice SuperthreadConversely I went as a group of 6 and it was great as we could split up how we wanted or go off on our own. It meant we had choice over where we went and it was generally very enjoyable.(Original post by .Scout.)

Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice Superthread
Booked my flight out to Krakow and three days in a hostel there, getting excited! Hoping to visit these places (and hopefully more) in about 3-4 weeks..
Krakow > Bratislava > Budapest > Zagreb > Split > Ljubljana > Rome > Florence > Nice
Should I get the 10 in 22 days interrail ticket or buy as I go along? hmmm -
Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice Superthread
Hey, I've just spent the last few days reading this whole thread trying to figure out my plans for interrailing this summer! There is still so much for me to know, but I'm so excited thinking about it all, it'll be my first time backpacking and I'll be going alone! I'm almost 20, female btw
So this is my preliminary plan:
Berlin - Prague - Wroclaw - Krakow - Budapest - Pecs - Novi Sad - Sarajevo - Split - Ljubljana
I was initially thinking about getting the 10 in 22 ticket, but think my plans are a bit ambitious for that timeframe and also thinking I might save if I get the individual journeys? Like I said, I haven't checked out much, this is very preliminary. I was thinking I wanted to end in Split, but not sure how to work that out, and not sure if that's that important anyway.
Would love any advice, tips, criticisms - anything! -
Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice SuperthreadFor Prague-Wroclaw it'd be best for you to take a bus as it's direct. I used http://www.polskibus.com/en last year and they were very good and if you buy in advance you can get a ticket for £2-£5. They're a new company I think so all the buses are new and have wi-fi. Also if you're going to Slovenia you should definitely visit Bled.(Original post by takethyfacehence)
