Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice Superthread
I'm hopefully doing 22 days of travelling
From the middle of July up to around results day. Planning to visit Paris, Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Milan, Florence, Venice, Vienna, Budapest, and end up in Istanbul and fly back to England. Anyone doing a similar route? What are travel cost estimates for 22 days? I saw £50 per day mentioned, plus flights/Interrail pass.
PM/Skype me or reply on here

Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice Superthread
Hi
I'm looking to go interrailing or even just stay in Berlin for a week or two, not sure which would be best really. I really want to use my German A level, because this could be my only chance haha.
Was looking to go end of august/start of september.
Also, I am currently a lone traveller, not sure if I'm that keen on it tbh.
Would appreciate any tips/advice or even a travel buddy ^_^ -
Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice Superthread
I'm going interrailing in about 3 weeks time and just wondering if it is okay to book/reserve trains when we are actuelly in the country, possibly 2 or 3 days prior? Or would this mean that we wouldnt be able to get on a trian with our interail passes?? At frist im going from Marseille to Milan and have heard/read that you have to reserve seats, but is it possible to do that at the train station or do i need to do that before i leave for interrailing?

Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice SuperthreadGreat route! I did a very similar one last year and had such a good time.(Original post by The_beginning)
Hey guys.
Just looking for feedback on the possibility of the following, its for 22 day ticket:
Amsterdam
Berlin
Krakow
Budapest
Vienna
Ljubljana (then to Bled)
Barga
Avignon
Paris
Absolutely loved Berlin (so much to see and do and fantastic nightlife) and Budapest because it was super cheap and again there was so much to do. Plus everyone was so friendly! Without a doubt though Ljubljana was my favourite place - such a chilled out city and lake Bled was absolutely stunning. I was there mid trip and it was amazing just to chill out and relax!
Out of interest, why Avignon? Are you going to the festival? I'm not asking this out of criticism, it's just people would tend to go to Marseille instead. I'm just curious as I'm actually moving to Avignon in a few months for my year abroad and know hardly anything about it

Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice SuperthreadThe Caxton card came pronto, as well as my EHIC. Thank the merciful post delivery men and the baby jesus!(Original post by .Scout.)
Just to warn you, although the fairfx website said it would take 7-10 working days, my card took much longer to arrive. So sort it out asap!

Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice SuperthreadI'm leaving on the 2nd as well(Original post by Chambo)
LEAVING ON THE 2nd!!!! So excited / nervous!!!
Wondering what the hell to do with myself to pass the time before I leave. Only booked the first 6 days as well.
Anyways, just wanting to know if anyone has a recommendation for any specific hostels that particularly stood out in any of the following places:
Berlin // Prague // Bratislava // Budapest // Zagreb // Split
I'm more keen on small to medium sized places with a lot of character and are in a good location.
Would anyone advice missing out any of the above places? Anywhere you'd particularly recommend that we go to would also be great

Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice SuperthreadOoooh lucky! What's your route?(Original post by Chambo)
LEAVING ON THE 2nd!!!! So excited / nervous!!! Any tips? And necessities to take with us, that you wouldn't necessarily think of? :P thank you in advance!

My advice would be to pack light - if you desperately need something extra you can buy it out there just lugging a heavy backpack around would be hellish.
Take comfy shoes.
Take a travel towel instead of a normal one...they're super absorbant yet super small so it wont take up alot of space in your bag.
If you can, get a shampoo bar. I got mine from Lush and it's ideal for travelling as its light (unlike bottles of shampoo and conditioner...) and it lasts for MONTHS. Plus it made my hair squeaky clean and it smelt amazing. Can't recommend this product enough!
Also remember a padlock for hostel lockers.
Enjoy your trip!

I really wouldn't recommend Bratislava. That was my starting point last year purely because the flights out there were super cheap compared to flights to Budapest/Prague/Vienna etc. I was there for one and a half days yet this was far to long. I spend the first half day looking around the really small centre and then on the full day, went on a day trip to a local castle. There really isn't much to do there. I would only recommend Bratislava as a day trip from Vienna (they're super close) yet I wouldn't ever suggest that people made a point of going there. Why not go to Vienna instead? That way you can still pass through Bratislava on your way through to Budapest.
OR, miss out Bratislava altogether and go Berlin -Prague - Budapest - Zagreb - Ljubljana (and Bled)- Split...? I don't know how long you have though (or how long you planned to stay in each city) so I don't know if this is possible... Ljubljanba is an amazing small city though, so chilled out and pretty - so much character. Lake bled is also nearby and this for me is a MUST SEE.
However, I did stay in a great hostel whilst I was in Bratislava. It was called Patio hostel. Good location, SUPR friendly staff and amazingly clean rooms and comfy beds. Plus, it was SO cheap (well everything was cheap in Bratislava...)
Anyway, if you want more advice feel free to ask

See, the problem is, I've heard mixed opinions about Bratislava. In terms of nightlife it's meant to be incredible given how cheap it is. I imagine we'll potentially spend a night or two there if any purely for the nightlife rather than sightseeing etc.
I hear that Vienna is pretty expensive. I've been there before but only when very young. We may go there but it's unlikely.
Well we haven't actually got a set length of time that we plan to go for. The current idea is to go for around a month so we can probably fit in quite a few places. Really wanting to go to Croatia although I don't know which places are best. I hear the islands are great. Zagreb isn't so great in summer apparently because everyone goes to the islands. Any idea which would be good to go to?
Lake Bled looks incredible, just googled it. Think we'll definitely be going there then. Staying in a nearby hostel would be good but I guess we could just go there as a day trip from Ljubljana.
We've only booked the first 5 days so the trip is completely flexible. We'll be booking hostels on our phones using hostel wifi as we go. -
Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice SuperthreadI'm very much interested in the same thing. Reading online, it seems pointless to reserve train seats in advance. However, for journeys that are only running once or twice a day, I may consider reserving them to be safe (usually about £3) when on the trip. I've been given the advice that reserving a seat a few days ahead should be fine.(Original post by JessRuss22)

On the topic of which trains are illegible for the IR trip, is it most trains? I've planned my journey around the trains/routes that appear on train sites such as FahrPlan and DB Bahn; should I assume that these trains are those which I can get on? -
Re: Interrailing/Eurailing Advice SuperthreadI've had the exact same problem. Leaving on Monday and don't have a pass.(Original post by usernonapplicable)
Is it possible to purchase interrail passes at short notice other than online? Such as train stations/airports/travel agents.
Searched google but there are no definite answers.
After lots of research it turns out you can buy them at main stations in cities (not any in the UK though).
So we're going to buy our passes from the central station in Amsterdam.
