Re: The Banned Calculator ListYou misunderstood what I was trying to say (my fault, i just wrote a load of **** before i went out). But it doesn't matter.. my other point would have been almost equally stupid.(Original post by Mr M)
That's just daft. People know cheating by using a mobile phone is banned but it doesn't make them determined to do it!

Re: The Banned Calculator List
Most of our maths university exams only allow for single/dual line calculators , if you're allowed to use a calculator at all which isn't a given.
You certainly wouldn't be allowed anything which can do symbolic integration here or the like.
Having said that I don't think my invigilators paid much attention when I was taking my GCSE and A-level exams either - but you can't assume that will be the case... -
Re: The Banned Calculator List
Not once has our school even glanced at our calculators and by the response of the invigilators to simple questions involving rules - I doubt they have learnt anything during their training. I am almost 100% sure that someone using a symbolic calculator would get away with it at my school.

Re: The Banned Calculator ListAs long as you can prove that you're not using any programs to your advantage and haven't stored any helpful notes on it, they should have no reason to take it off you.(Original post by LydiaC121)
People rarely use this model. haha
oh, i can programme it as well, which could be a slight risk if I use it in an exam..
Some calculators (such as TI Nspires) have a testing mode that disables things that are inappropriate for exams. Too bad TI didn't bother making an option that disables the CAS in the TI Nspire CAS, otherwise I could use it in my exam.

in your school the invigilars where either standing at the front or the back w8ing for somone to put there hand up. not 1 calc was checked -
Re: The Banned Calculator List
It's a little bit different in my college, what *normally* happens is they come round and check that your calculators on the 'calculator reset' page..then they do a random sample and reset their calculators during the exam. Although saying that, we had an FP1 resit last week and none of the 10 or so of us doing it had our calculators checked. There were also people that got away with having calculators in the C1 exam back last January..not sure how it helped much though!
I know back at GCSE they were extra strict on them aswell, they knew there were banned calculators and mine got taken away and checked as I'd replaced my standard 2 line casio that everyone had (the kind you could write BOOBIES on!) with a fx85 natural display..fortunately they gave it back! -
Re: The Banned Calculator List
Don't know about you guys but my Casio fx-9860g Slim can integrate and differentiate if you install a program on it. (symbolic integ/diff) its not on the ban list and infact our school told us to buy them. Its super quick in doing calculations etc. Programs can be installed and notes transferred as a program for a text reader has been made. It's got a USB connection to the PC so everything can be transferred over.
Oh, and its not even ban! -
Re: The Banned Calculator ListI spent about 3 mins with my hand up in a maths exam waiting for them to even notice me(Original post by limit572)

they are shocking.

Re: The Banned Calculator ListCan deal with that, programs are stored onto the calculators flash memory rather than on the the calculators memory. If reset back to factory settings the programs/notes will still be on the calculators flash memory.(Original post by Mr M)
All programs must be deleted and memories emptied before the examination starts.
Plus this process of actually 'resetting calculators' NEVER happens. Too many candidates in a room with a schedule to stick, they never ask for calculator memory to be cleared. -
Re: The Banned Calculator ListGood luck with your plans to cheat. I hope for your sake there is not an inspection on the day of your examination.(Original post by Snake91)
