Re: The Banned Calculator ListGot the same calculator, its really useful, and I'm pretty sure its not banned(Original post by kenann)
i have the latest casio, fx-991ES PLUS, and it's absolutely divine. solutions to quadratics, solving for x, integration, differentiation, sum of a geo/arithmetic series, it can even do vectors... i'm glad it's not banned, and if it is, i'm glad my college doesn't check

Re: The Banned Calculator Listisn't it just brilliant? i always take the liberty to kindly show my friends at holy cross exactly what their calculator doesn't do(Original post by iCiaran)

Re: The Banned Calculator ListIt's pretty much identical to other casio calculators just does more stuff, so if you've had a casio in the past you'll have no problems at all adjusting(Original post by yayifications)
Just bought the Casio FX-991ES PLUS from Amazon about 5 minutes ago after reading reviews here and on there, fingers crossed it comes before my C2 exam on Thursday. Is it difficult to learn how to use the functions?

Re: The Banned Calculator ListSo using it to integrate and factorise is pretty straight forward also?(Original post by iCiaran)

Re: The Banned Calculator ListYup, to integrate, you just press a button, type in what you want to integrate and the bounds.(Original post by yayifications)
So using it to integrate and factorise is pretty straight forward also?
There is another mode for factorising, it does up to cubics and you just type in the coefficients of the x's for example
you just put 2 , -3 , 5 and -10 in their respective boxes and it gives you the roots, only thing you have to watch out for here is that it also returns imaginary roots :P

Re: The Banned Calculator ListOooh, thank you so much!(Original post by iCiaran)

Re: The Banned Calculator ListWell since the exam boards won't even make a list because they say they can't keep up, I doubt the invigilators have a list either, so as long as the calculator looks fairly discrete they probably wouldn't even notice.(Original post by Tackla)
I have always wondered if you brought in a banned calculator for an exam does the invigilators ACTUALLY know how they look or the model of them?
Probably yes, but if they could do that they probably don't need a banned calculator to do well anyway... XD(Original post by Madmachine)
Couldnt some whizz kid fit all the banned calculator parts into the shell of an unbanned calculator?
