There is one quote in Chapter 11 - Castle Rock: "I'm trying to think. Supposing we go, looking like we used to, washed and hair brushed - after all we aren't savages really and being rescued isnt a game-"

That is when Ralph, Samneric and Piggy want to get Piggy's glasses back after Jack stole them. It shows that he wants to return to civilisation and he doesnt realise the extent to which they have decented into barabrism and savagary.
