Edexcel / Unit 2 / Parliament / Strengthening Select Committees

A way of strengthening select committess would, according to my book, be to have "select committe members chosen by all MPs in a secret ballot rather than by party managers" so like not just loyal backbenchers be put on committees. But isn't this just silly, like wouldn't all MPs vote for members of their own party to be on committees anyway as surely they wouldn't want their party being made more accountable and therefore (possibly) being discredited etc

Nice bit of evaluation you got there, might get you a few marks should this question come up. Really, the only way to truely strengthen anything is to make it democratically elected through the public, but then there comes the arguement of the public acting in favour of whichever party it supports and government once again receiving a majority in the committee room etc.
Don't worry, this type of evaluation is a good thing as it earns you the marks.
