Question regarding orientation programme

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student from Germany coming to Sheffield in September for my postgraduate studies. I'm thinking about participating in the orientation programme for international students which will start on 13 September and have a question about it.

On the information website it says in the what-to-bring-section: "smart clothes for the formal dinner and other evening entertainment. Traditional or regional dress would be very welcome and appropriate".

Can anyone tell me what's meant by traditional or regional dress??

Thanks a lot for your help!

For you that probably means a Dirndl.
