Re: My baking blog! But not with a recipe(Original post by kiss_me_now9)
Just updated
That's a shame as they look really good! I was thinking of getting the hummingbird bakery cookbook, but wasn't sure if it'd be worth it...
Btw, if you're wanting to add commenting facility to your site, then it's fairly easy if you sign up to disqus - they take you through it step by step if your theme doesn't support it. Just 'cos I saw you'd mentioned commenting in your post

Re: My baking blog! That does look wonderful! But the link you'd put for the fondant appears to be dead?(Original post by Zebrastripes)
Love both your blogs, and I've linked to them from mine. Mine cooking and baking blog is http://dulwichmunchies.blogspot.com/ I have too many blogs

Re: My baking blog!I've also got the Hummingbird Bakery cookbook and I find it really good! I've done a lot of the recipes from it and in my experience they've all turned out pretty nice. Depends on person to person I guess!(Original post by sparklysparkles)

Thanks for that Disqus link, definitely going to be putting that on!
I'm planning to write a review of both the books, obviously this would mean making more than one recipe from each
when I get time

That does look wonderful! But the link you'd put for the fondant appears to be dead?
I have a couple of posts planned this week, as bakerella posted some nice muffins I want to try out, and my friend is having a birthday picnic and asked everyone to bring something imaginative. Although, I hardly have internet and updating blogger from my phone is a pain! -

Though, do you find that fondant goes down well? I mean, I've seen so many wonderful designs (including yours) that make the cakes look so good, but then I just don't think it tastes half as yummy as buttercream frosting. Is that just me? -
Re: My baking blog!
Looking through this thread, it's made me want to start baking even more! Unfortunately, I've never really baked before so have no baking utensils, but I have been looking through some websites in the hope of buying some this week

I just wanted to know everyones opinions/experiences with silicone bakeware? Is it really better/worth the extra money compared to normal bakeware? -
Re: My baking blog!I only have silicone cupcake cases (that I've used - I have a couple of small 'tins' but haven't used them yet) and they're great for looking pretty, but a pain to wash up and get the cakes out of.(Original post by Miss.A.T.S)

I only have silicone cupcake cases (that I've used - I have a couple of small 'tins' but haven't used them yet) and they're great for looking pretty, but a pain to wash up and get the cakes out of.
Do you need to use the silicone cupcases in a muffin tray or can you just put them on a baking tray?
I thought the silicone bakeware was meant to make it easier to get the cakes out? -
Re: My baking blog!Put them on a muffin tray, as they're not rigid enough to hold their shape.(Original post by Miss.A.T.S)

Yes and no, I find that the silicone just isn't flexible enough to bend and let the cupcake out, however I would imagine a bigger cake would come out easier. -

Can silicone cupcakes be put in a normal standard muffin tray or does it have to be a silicone tray as well?
Are there any websites/stores you would recommend that sell cheap but decent bakeware? -
Re: My baking blog!I love silicone cake tins - SO much easier to get the cakes out compared to the metal ones. Poundland actually have fun-shaped silicon cake tins (I've got a bear and a butterfly), and sometimes other silicone bakeware, so it's not necessarily more expensive either!(Original post by Miss.A.T.S)

I don't rate the cupcake cases, though, as they are far too fiddly to clean. -
Re: My baking blog!Oh I didn't know poundland went as far as doing silicone bakeware - I might have a look in there some time, thanks(Original post by sparklysparkles)

I would go with Poundland as Sparkley suggested! Or places like Morrisons/Tesco -

Thanks for clearing up the whole muffin cases/tray question
Does it matter whether the mixing bowls are made out of plastic/glass/steel? Is one better than the other?Last edited by Miss.A.T.S; 14-06-2010 at 21:27. -
Re: My baking blog!I find that too. I prefer to just buy really pretty paper cake cases for little cakes.(Original post by kiss_me_now9)

Re: My baking blog!I have a plastic and a glass one, if you're whisking egg whites (chiffon cakes call for this, and some other recipes) you will need a metal or glass one, otherwise your eggs won't peak. Other than that, it doesn't really make a difference that I've found.(Original post by Miss.A.T.S)
