No problem, just didn't want you to think I ignored your question

Took a look at your blog - looking good! I like your background, it fits the theme well Also that chocolate cake looks divine! Especially the cute Easter themed one. Also your icing looks really neat and smooth

New post, failed a bit with my classic cheesecake (far too much water in the jelly!) but some lovely other stuff made and eaten this weekend

Happy Made my best ever rolls today. Soft, light...and with making up a recipe on my own.

My parents had left some cream in the fridge so I was actually using Google to find a recipe for Japanese Cream Bread. While I was looking for that, I found the (almost inevitable these days) mention of things like tangzhong (which has really taken eastern baking blogs by storm) but also of 'gelatinized dough', which was basically just taking some flour and adding 70% of its mass in boiling water and mixing the two together into a dough, then leaving it in the fridge overnight before using it as a starter for a bread dough. It was supposed to make light and fluffy breads so since my rolls usually turned out dense and heavy it seemed like a good test for them...but since most of the recipes on asian blogs using this method were for things like rotiboys, I was forced to just guess at a recipe for my rolls. But seriously, what a winner the recipe was. I'll have to try and remember my login details for my blog so I can record it and access it any time I need it

I made a really nice cinnamon teacake yesterday. I managed to screw up the recipe by putting the flour into the eggs, butter and sugar mix that I was supposed to beat first, but I managed to separate the flour like a boss before beating it and it turned out fine. Really simple, with just a bit of vanilla flavour in the cake and cinnamon/sugar dusted on top, but it's very tasty. I'll certainly be making that one again.

Heh, funny you should mention that. I was reading a food blog just last night called Kirbie's Cravings which for various reasons I fell in love with...and one of those reasons was that she seemed to have a near-constant craving for Nutella. There were loads of recipes on the blog that used it, from cookies and brownies to milkshakes and taiyaki.

LOVE THAT BLOG. the Nutella mug cake is so good when you have serious chocolate cravings and no food.

I had a crazy "molecular gastronomy" recipe to try that worked incredibly well; great for a dessert in a rush: Magic Mousse, made with only water and chocolate but looking + tasting delish!

Yup! I preferred it to the last mousse I'd tried making which was of the traditional type with egg... this was nicer and ready to eat just after being made rather than faffing about leaving it to chill in the fridge! Not bubbly mind you, almost like a more-solid ganache. Though I'm betting much better (comparatively) for you given it doesn't have all that cream. Plus cheaper - I used 30p chocolate and it made 3 tasty desserts!

It's the 40th birthday of the zoo I work at and there's a staff party next week - with a baking competition :p: I've said I'd enter and I haven't baked in ages! Trying to think of something fun and animal-related.
