Re: My baking blog!Giraffe shaped marble cake!(Original post by ily_em)
It's the 40th birthday of the zoo I work at and there's a staff party next week - with a baking competition
I've said I'd enter and I haven't baked in ages! Trying to think of something fun and animal-related.

What a good looking cake that is! Did you make it? Would you mind sharing with us how you created those very uniform marbling effect?

Re: My baking blog!
I haven't share my baking adventures with you all for a while, so here they are

Last weekend I made French chocolate macarons. SO GOOD! They're not as hard as everyone makes them out to be. I did not have any proper equipment - see my blog for the substitutions I made
Not really baking, but it's a sweet....Almond parfait. It's like ice cream but more excitng!

White chocolate coconut mud cake, with a little bird. I had never made such a pretty cake before. It was lots of fun and not that difficult either
Crustless quark cheesecake. So yummy! I really like German style cheesecakes as they are not as sweet as the ones you typically find in the shops.
Old Bavarian apple cake. Everyone else liked it, but I did not. There is so much flour in it and it made my stomach cry! I felt so sick afterwards!
I think that is all I baked
hehe.

Re: My baking blog!
OK, I said three weeks ago that I was going to post my new burger bun recipe on my blog, and it's taken until today for me to actually do it
Still, on the positive side, the three weeks in between gave me plenty opportunity to try the recipe again, and it's giving me nice, consistent results and was easily adapted to hot dog rolls as well
I haven't tried, but I'd hazard a guess that it'd be easily adapted for submarine rolls too. And hopefully it won't be another six months before I update the blog again...fingers crossed, some piadine will be on the menu tonight and if successful then they'll be my next blog entry.
Spoiler:Show

Re: My baking blog!
I've recently done a quite a few posts on food - mainly university meals, but some baking, and have started a few restaurant reviews too (although they're not posted). Hope its okay for me to write this here, I'm not too sure!
Today I wrote about my quest to design a healthier brownie recipe, and there's a seperate post (also today) about stir-frying.

Re: My baking blog!Looks good(Original post by Da CorrupteD KiD)
Just made a proper cake today and it's a red velvet. This was my first time frosting a cake and it was a lot harder than it seemed in the youtube videos!

Frosting is much much harder than it looks on youtube!! I've only ever managed to get a smooth covering twice, EVER! -
Re: My baking blog! Thanks! The video I saw last time showed a guy who frosted a cake perfectly (super smooth surfaces and neat edges) in less than a minute. On the other hand, it took me at least half an hour to finish frosting this cake.(Original post by Ruthie!)

Re: My baking blog!I use a 1M(Original post by Luxray)
Guys which is better for piping out roses? the wilton 1M or the 2D? And anywhere know where I can get a nozzle at a price lower than £5?
Try amazon maybe, a lot of specialist places try to rip you off!

It's what used to be big W, and they apparently sell all sorts of stuff. Not had chance to get to one yet, but might be worth a try. -
Post Pictures of your Cakes and Baking!
I think its about time we had a thread like this. If we have one already let me know and I will slink off in shame.
Seeing as the baking competitions are so popular I figure there must be a lot of awesome baking going unseen. Now is your chance to show to world!
Just finished this today, first attempt at truffles and first attempt at a chocolate bow.
