Graduate school ranking in US/UK/CA/AU
Guys, I'm wondering how graduate schools in US/UK/CA/AU can be compared.
Let's discuss about this exciting topic!
I know it heavily depends on the subject, but we are still able to talk about the ranking in general. I prepared the draft ranking for our discussion.
Graduate school ranking
Rank S
US Harvard,Yale,Princeton,Stanford, MIT,Caltech
UK Cambridge
CA -
AU -
Rank A+
US Columbia,UPenn,Chicago,UC Berkeley
UK Oxford
CA -
AU -
Rank A
US Cornell,Northwestern,NYU,UCLA
UK Imperial LSE
CA Toronto
AU -
Rank A-
US Brown,CMU,Duke,Georgetown,Johns Hopkins,Wisconsin-Madison,Michigan-Ann Arbor,Illinois,UCSD,Texas Austin
UK UCL
CA Mcgill
AU ANU
Rank B
US Dartmouth,Washington-St.Louis,BU,Emory,Notre Dame,Rochester,GIT
UK Manchester,Warwick,King's
CA UBC
AU Sydney
Rank C
US USC,Tufts,Vanderbilt,Penn State,BC,UNC-Chapel Hill,Virginia,OSU,UCD,UCI,UCSB
UK Edinburgh
CA Queen's
AU Melbourne Queensland
I put these unis into the ranking table by 3 standards(1.Research quality 2.Selectivity 3.Job prospects).
The reason why some prestigious unis are underrated is because of the bad research quality.
But this ranking is just a draft version and biased by my view.
So I don't mind if someone arranges it, of course.
I'm just interested in how we're going to conclude this top in the end. -

Comparability of standards impossible and wrong, Hepi says

Re: Graduate school ranking in US/UK/CA/AUBecause the idea of comparing graduate 'schools' like this is so ridiculous it's impossible to take it seriously and the method employed here - if you can call it that - is just laughable. I mean just look at the whole '2+3+5=9' business in post #3.(Original post by Tarutaru)
Why so many people like posting rubbish here??
So it's probably not a coincidence that the only people who apparently have taken it seriously so far are undergraduates who have presumably got a bit too carried away with the whole league table idea...

Re: Graduate school ranking in US/UK/CA/AUHahahahahaha, I didn't expect someone actually responded to my question and particularly a response from a moderator XD XD(Original post by hobnob)

Oh, I think you misunderstood to which the word "rubbish" refers.... I totally agree with you.Last edited by Tarutaru; 04-06-2010 at 01:57. -

Direct translation is more stronger. It says "The wall between permissible graduate schools and impermissible graduate schools for the students in Uni of ***". It makes sense for us. University hierarchy is very rigorous here. There are less freedom to choose universities and even courses.(Original post by hobnob)
It seriously says that?
Also 2 channellers love exaggerated expressions. For instance, one of the subforum contains such topics now.
"Laugh scornfully about fall of A University"
"B University is a grayback of C University"
"D University>E University>F University>>>G University(LMAO)"
"Why H Universiy is damn stupid but wants to think itself as good as National Seven Universities?"
"History of crime in I University students(Rape/Murder)"
http://gimpo.2ch.net/joke/subback.html
Better universities have less mud & looking down. Most people don't post such spoiled topics. But we are afraid the situation that someone considers our universities in such way. People try to go to better university as much as possible also for their peace of mind. -
Re: Graduate school ranking in US/UK/CA/AUOuch, that sounds like an even more extreme version of GUD.(Original post by Konkun)
