Re: Mature students at LeedsOh wow, where in America are you from? And here I was feeling anxious about having to move to another city, nevermind a continent! Will you be attending the Re-Imagining the Victorians conference?(Original post by acs623)
I'm doing the Victorian Lit MA so I have to take the Reading Victorian Literature: History, Text and Context course and I'm doing the Brontë course as my elective. I'm coming over from the U.S. and I'm anxiously awaiting my move to Leeds!
Vinnygar, unlucky. Pleast tell me that they're first-years though... I'm living with a 3rd year and two postgrads (that I haven't met yet) and hoping they'll be a little more toned down. I really don't want to have to be the "killjoy" that stomps out at 5am to demand quiet.Last edited by Syrin; 12-08-2010 at 19:24. -
Re: Mature students at LeedsI'm from Illinois. I've lived abroad before though (including 6 months in London), so I'm not too nervous about moving back to England. Although I really don't know how I'm going to fit everything into two suitcases this time! I think I am going to go to the conference just to meet some fellow English MA students.(Original post by Syrin)

And yes Vinnygar, that sounds like a nightmare! Poor you! I'm living with a mix of postgrads and 3rd and 4th year students so hopefully no one will be too obnoxious!

Re: Mature students at Leedsim 26 and starting my 2nd year at leeds. lets be old together!(Original post by Nooptheloop)
Hiya, just thought I'd see on here if anyone's in the same boat as me. I'm 26, second year at Leeds and there aren't really many people in my age group around here. Would quite like to meet people who aren't shrieking children
Sound familiar to anyone? I'm sure other oldies must exist in Leeds
We could talk about the good old days
PS I know my sig is a bit bizarre given my post but come on they are good shows

Re: Mature students at LeedsMe and my partner are also doing the physics with foundation year this september! We're older than you though.....by a little bit(Original post by Tom Mason)
Yeah I guess by the standard set here i'm technically an oldie. I'll be 25 in october and start a physics with foundation year in september, just been confirmed for my student housing in smaller residences. Im also a little concerned about having to deal with shriekers discovering alcohol and independence for the first time.
Lol, no offense to anyone but we've all done it, and i know what im missing. lol
He's 34 and i'm 27......feel elderly. We're staying in big halls so will be surrounded by the younger type - don't mind too much but just don't want to feel totally outnumbered! We're pretty tolerant plus probably like to party more than the kids

Re: Mature students at Leeds
I'm starting an MA in Management and am an oldie too, I'm 25. I started my BA when I was 22 and got a bit frustrated with living with 18 year olds who hammered on doors and partied all the time, but it's understandable to be unleashed away from home and exploiting their freedom lol!
Having said that, in year 3 I moved back home to concentrate and it paid off. Guess it's the luck of the draw with housemates.
Good luck for next year, maybe see you sometime soon! -

I'm also living with a 3rd year and two postgraduates. It's also my fear that studying for an MA will be a nightmare if coupled with "party animals" staying up till 5am every night of the week! I opted for Concept Place and am on the 3rd floor which is mean't to be quieter!Last edited by bn10jgs; 19-08-2010 at 02:21. -
Re: Mature students at LeedsIf you can't get a masters while partying, how are you going to stay up to 5am while partying?(Original post by bn10jgs)

Haha, you are brave souls, i hope the halls are ok....Which halls are you in?
Haha, i'll see you guys soon! my name is my user name, im guessing you'll be the older couple! -
Re: Mature students at LeedsYou could've been put in the mature students halls! They have separate halls for the oldies and internationals. Looks like you missed out.(Original post by Vinnygar)
I'm 25 and a second year student. At home my social circle is a mixture between 25-30's - so me being in the lower end of that spectrum, thought I'd find sanctity being with young people. Relive my youth, so to speak.
Joined university and apparently letting off fire-extinguishers, setting fire-alarms at 5am (when I have to get up at 7am) and smeering toothpaste on doors and screaming girls at 4am in coridoors who have had a few WKD's is "legendary".
I only have myself to blame, I guess. -
Re: Mature students at LeedsHiya, I am a mature student at Leeds, also 26, second year English Literature.(Original post by Nooptheloop)

I am also the president of the newly-formed Mature and Part-time Students society (MatSoc).
We will have a stall on the Monday of Freshers week (20th) in the Riley Smith Hall if you want to pop in and see me and the committee. Our first ever social event is on the 28th September at 7pm in the Old Bar.
Hope to see you there!
Amy.
