AQA LITB Unit 1 - Anyone else studied Small Island?

Hey,
I know the titles probably very similar to many other threads on this forum right now. As few people seem to have studied this text, even in our college what are your opinions of it/good points to use in exam?

I'm planning to use it in the Section B aspects of Narrative question, but problem is its such a DAMN LONG BOOK don't want to spend half the 20mins I should spend on that part searching for quotes >__< let alone which bit happens where, all the more useful parts like Gilbert & Queenies date etc.

I mean it is a good book, yes...pretty interesting and definitely a good beach read. But who on earth had the idea of setting it for this exam, let alone choosing to teach it..??

I would just paraphrase parts and events but seems 1 of the AO's specifically asks for well-selected quotations so that would be useless...

Anyway what do you guys think?
