getting information about change in retail/commercial services

hey,
i'm not sure if anyone will know but i thought it would be worth a shot...i'm trying to do some research for my dissertation at the mo and as part of this i want to try and find out how the retail facilities and other commercial services has changed in the area im studying over the last 10 years or so (basically what types of shops and stuff there are now compared to before a big development took place)....anyways i've not really got a clue where (if anywhere) i could get this data from, is there anywhere that keeps records on this type of stuff?

I dunno if anyone will know but it thought maybe people could done stuff like this for a level/gcse projects and might be able to help me :smile:
