i spent **** all on mine!! - sixth form prom

i already had a dress that i'd worn for a wedding, my mum bought my shoes and bag and my ticket!! the ticket was only £20 this year though, not £45 like last year. because it was cheap 200/250 in my year went and it was amazing!!

some people spent ridiculous amounts on clothes but you wear it once and wreck it anyway!!

so yes but it depends how much money your talking of and how much you have

I can't stand proms. Another stupid American import. It's promotes the worst things about American culture in one night.

Back in my day we never had proms. We had a fun day bowling, skating, swimming, etc paid for by the school.

YES, THIS. Whatever happened to having fun by doing...good old fun stuff? Our culture is shifting the wrong way!!

Proms = talking to the same people you talked to for 5/7 years, spending loads on food/clothes, feeling bad if you can't go, feeling bad if it's ruined, feeling bad if you're "lonely"...

Not my thang.

Mine was fun, but SO hot, was one of the hottest days, we couldn't really dance, it was too hot in the venue. My dress wasn't too expensive, and we all shared cost of the limo

Most sixth formers do to be honest.

Proms benefit the fatcats more. It's all about profit.
No, definately not worth the money.
I thought you said Porn. Leaving now.
My valedictory wasn't too costly for me. £35 suit hire (special prom offer), £15 for the ticket/meal and transport was free because me and my friend drove there in his tractor.

Actually, that's probably true tbf. At the time I probably saw my prom as the best thing in my life.

I'm 21 though now, and it's all but a distant memory.

That's what I hate the most. It's alienates the kids who can't afford it. Think about it, you have to buy the ticket, the clothes, often enough people want to put money together for a limo, there might be a meal before, etc, etc.

It puts young people under intense social pressure. It's worse for young women.

Some parents behave so bad during the prom season as well. Get mega pushy.

Exactly. :/
I reluctantly went to my year 11 prom because my mum said I need to go otherwise I'll regret it. I didn't want to go, and the day before her and my grandma went around town getting me everything <_<

It's gonna cost over £100, plus drinks and if I wanna stay in a hotel for the night. A couple of my best friends aren't going and my boyfriend's not 100% keen on going. So we're not gonna go.

I'd rather meet up with my friends and go bowling or something like that (:

No, actually! It was just an amazing night! You could ask anyone from my school and they'll tell you the same thing
Maybe your just anti-social? :yep:

Just don't spend that much money, then it will be worth it.

Dress £30 + Cost of prom £30 = £60 definitely worth it, and I didn't even like my prom that much.

My dad drove me, I bought shoes, jewellery and a bag but the cost of these I won't include because I've re-used them lots of times.

For my 6th form ball, I bought a dress for £15 which I have re-used :p: I bought shoes for £15 which I have reused, I wore the same jewellery I wore to the prom, I got a lift with my friend's mum, the ball itself cost £30 which included a meal, I bought a bag for £8 which is lovely (and I intend to reuse it), and I spent about £8 on rip-off drinks (my only regret :frown: )

Half of the pleasure is boasting about how I didn't spend that much muhahaha

definitely. mines in a few weeks and i regret the amount ive spent so far,

£275 for a dress
£40 for alterations for the dress
£35 for shoes
£25 for limo (splitting price)
then ive spent loads on make up, having my hair and nails done, and a bag and jewelery.
ohh yeah and £28 for the ticket

yep mine's in a few weeks and i have spent
260 on a suit but it can be used for formal parties aswell
£36 on a limo
£24 on the ticket
and pobably lots more on the night
and now i am thinking isit worth it even though my mum and dad are paying for everything
I think it depends on how seriously you take it. Those who spent loads on dresses and transport and what have you expected it to be something out of a Hollywood film, which it was never going to be - and had a disappointing night as a result. Those who spent relatively little, however, realizing it was just going to be a laugh and nothing too incredible, ended up having a better, more enjoyable evening.

Meh. Not really :dontknow:
Personally I loved mine. But then you always have the people who sit at a table all night, determined not to have a good time.

You get out of it what you put in in my opinion. Personally I had a blast. Granted, not the best night out... but still a lot of fun and the last time you'll be together with your whole year.
Definately!
I only paid for the ticket and a tie. If you have friends and everyone in the year's generally friendly with each other (and you aren't a grumpy guts), it's well worth it.
Definitely!
