How secure is my university place?

I'm just doing my A level exams (first one tomorrow) and I've been accepted by my first choice Exeter for a Bsc in Archaeology and Forensic Science but the news has been full of news about universities being forced to make cuts while applications this year are up 16.5%. My question and it might sound daft, is if you are accepted onto a course and complete the first year, is there any danger of your place as it were being cut from the course only part way through your time there or are the universities obliged to take you on for the whole three years regardless of cuts they have to make?
