Worrying about GCSE's?

Before i begin , firstly let me just say i am new to these forums therefore if a thread similar to this has been written im sorry.

At the moment i am currently in year 11 taking my GCSE exams. In order to undertake A-Levels at my school's sixth form i need 6 A*-C however grade B's in the subjects i wish to study at A level which in my case are :
History
Politics
English Lit
Geography or ICT

In addition, i have nearly sat all of my exams just the last few remaining yet i am becoming increasingly worried i will not fulfill the requirements, although a lot of work has been put in.

Did anyone else feel the same whilst sitting their GCSEs?

Sorry for the long thread however there is one more point i need to address. Since embarking on my last year of school i have been pursing a career in law. I am aware of the procedures required to fulfil this ambition however will my GCSE results play a major role in the university decisions? I am currently 16 years of age and have already done voluntary work experience at Clifford Chance (Law Firm) , The Financial Services Authority and Dyers Chambers , will these voluntary summer work experience placements increase any chances?

Thankyou for reading this thread, any responses would be much appreciated

i think you shouldn't stress until you get your results. if you didn't try your best, then that's your own fault that you didn't fulfill the requirements.
If you've put the work in you should be fine, everyon gets worried about how their exams are going whilst doing them, just keep trying your best and try not to think about it until results day.
Work experience is valuable for any career and usually does increase your chances of getting in as it shows that you have a passion for whatever it is you're doing.
Good luck with any other exams you have :yep:

Imo, do Geography instead of ICT. :yep:

Look, worrying is not going to get you the grades; just do the best you can in GCSEs and the same goes for A-levels. :yep:

For your exams, try not to worry about it now, wait until your results and then you can choose the next step. But the work experience you have already is great, may I ask how you managed to get work experience at the law firms/chambers?

Yeah I've been worrying loads after every exam. If I know I got one question wrong I would suddenly start fussing and worrying thinking I'd got the rest wrong.

Thank-you each post has been very helpful!

In answer to this i constructed a letter in which applying to undertake work experience un-paid , and during the summer holidays, many places are very good and except , however it does help if you know somebody for works in such an enviroment.
How on earth did you get work experience at Clifford Chance and a chambers?

You might want to calm on the lingo as well, every newbie thinks TSR is a place where everyone else is very posh, but we're not (for the most part). Honest :h:
Of course, everyone gets it. But you'll be quite alright, especially if you've put a bit of work in - know plenty of people who got all As-A*s with MINIMAL effort. For Law of course you need good results obviously, but worst case scenario you could always defer I suppose, If Law is definitely your bag.

Work experience will definitely help in my experience. Sounds crap but - find more. Just keep doing more placements and you pretty much can't fail (Though three is more than most already)

Keep active socially, become fully involved in school events and community events, anything that will impress on paper. Being world wise is gives you a bon chance, lol.

Sound like I'm about 50.

I know how you feel. If you want to go to a decent uni to read law then yes, you do need good GCSEs. I also reccomend taking Geography over ICT--just because it's a more traditional subject and unis find it more appealing.

well, I'm in a similar situation. No point worrying now, not going to be much use, only thing to do is work hard for the ones still to come (not much in my case, only two left). Good luck in the remainder of yours!

Thanks for replying, I would be very much interested in doing work experience over this summer holiday and fantastic if I could get a firm to do so.
So did you just email firms applying, or did you actually use contacts? And how did you choose which ones?
Many thanks.

Try not to worry! Whats done is done. You're only going to ruin your summer by worrying. If you dont do as well as you hoped then you're going to have had a bad summber and bad results day whereas if you do make the requitements (which I know you will!!!!) youre going to have had a summer full of worry and dismay which really is just a waste dont you think? Just be glad they are over and hope for the best... because even if you dont do as well as you hoped atleast you had a good summer. GOOD LUCK DONT WORRY!
Like others, I prefer Geography than ICT. ICT at A-levels is pretty much business studies, I've heard, although it may differ from exam boards. Geography gives you the skills to write clearly and do argumentative writings in decision-making papers. Law involves a lot of writing and other thing with Geography is you get maths skills as well so if you decided to specialise in particular fields in Law then the skills you've gained are useful. Oh make sure you can stick those facts in your head quickly and accurately because Geography=facts and figures.

Firstly i am not posh either, i come from a middle class background however when writing i tend to write as accurately and correctly as possible. You could just say its a habbit - tends to work better then writing in text language.

Ok but there really is no need for it and it isn't appealing; it's just very annoying...sorry but it honestly is :s-smilie:

Oh and I don't write in text language either as is evident. :p:
