Re: "Game of Thrones" HBO(Original post by hamijack)
The TV show has really brought it out why people dislike Stannis. He's such an annoying anally retentive dick. The books didn't really bring that across for me as much as the TV show has.Spoiler:ShowPersonally that's what I thought Stannis was when I was reading the second book, and I actually kind of wanted the Lannisters to win the Battle of the Blackwater, since I love Tyrion, and plus poor Sansa would have been killed if Stannis had won!
However, near the end of A Storm of Swords, and then continuing in A Dance with Dragons, I came to realise that Stannis really isn't that bad, and that he's the only contender for the throne who cares about the threat from the Others. If he just dropped all of Melisandre's red religion BS then he'd have more of a chance!

Spoiler:ShowIs it BS though? It's obvious that Stannis isn't Azor Ahai Reborn as Melisandre seems to think he is, but a lot of the stuff surrounding her religion seems to make sense.
I'm disappointed Melisandre didn't refer to Azor Ahai or The Prince Who Was Promised in the bonfire scene in episode 1. I hope they don't attempt to leave that out of the TV series, or they don't leave the whole story behind it out for too long. Seems like it could become quite significant, especially with some of the theories that are going around. -

I doubt that Melissandre's religion will be established to be the one true faith, especially when Martin (and Tyrion!) is known to be cynical about religious belief.
The point I was making in the previous post about Stannis was that politically, his adherence to the Red Religion was disastrous for him, and was probably one of the main factors behind the Tyrells deciding to back the Lannisters following Renly's death - and if the Reach had chosen differently then Stannis would probably have won the Iron Throne. -
Re: "Game of Thrones" HBO
I gave into the pressure and watch the second episode

I can't have been the only one that thought Asha Greyjoy (they gave her a different name in the show?) would be...hot?
Spoiler:ShowAnd I cannot recall the ending of that episode being in the book? I can't recall Craster hitting John
Edit: And did Davos not worship the Seven in the book?Last edited by Deshi; 05-04-2012 at 12:49. -

My money's on Jon being Azor Azhai cos of reasons. -
Re: "Game of Thrones" HBOI think they changed her name for the show because the thought viewers might get confused with an Asha and and Osha.(Original post by Deshi)

Re: "Game of Thrones" HBOAh fairplay. Some of the subtle changes from the book are starting to throw me off a bit(Original post by JessicaW)

Re: "Game of Thrones" HBOWtf. They obviously succeeded with avoiding confusion.(Original post by AugustWestie)
From what I've been able to find out, Rakaro in the TV series is isn't actually Rakharo from the books. He is more akin to Jhogo from the books and the writers changed his name to Rakaro to avoid any confusion with Drogo. It is kind of confusing.
Got the second episode to watch later on tonight.
