Goldney, Manor and CHH are all right next to each other, so there are still plenty of students about and more than enough socialising  a lot of the student clubs are on 'the triangle', about 5 minutes walk from Goldney, and Wetherspoons (standard meeting place before going out!) isn't far either, so it's not like the Clifton halls are segregated.

I wasn't in an ensuite, but I really didn't care! Each flat had one bathroom with shower and toilet, one separate toilet and one separate bathroom with just a bath. There was never really any queuing for the shower because everyone had different start times. As a vet you're likely to be the first one up anyway! And the cleaners came every week, so it didn't get filthy or anything. Plus, each room has its own washbasin. Personally, I think ensuites are a nice luxury, but not really worth the additional money. And it's highly unlikely you'll get an ensuite when you move into a student house in years 2-5!

My three criteria for going into halls were:
1) Not at Stoke Bishop (when I was in halls there wasn't a student bus to uni, so you had to walk)
2) Self-catered
3) not single sex flats (which is why I didn't apply to Manor)

One other thing to note about Manor is that it's being refurbished so is actually shut for the 2012/13 academic year.

Edit: When I say Manor is closed, I mean the main building! The annexes with the flats will still be there, students will just have to use Goldney and CHH facilities.

It sounds like Goldney would be good then, thanks for all your help! Are you at Bristol University still? xx

No problem  Obviously I'm going to be a bit bias haha - I'm sure there are Bristol students from other halls on here who would happily give their opinion! Oh, and with regards to the post above, there won't be many vets in Goldney (I think there were 2 maybe 3 in my year) BUT this is actually quite a nice thing for the first year; it's nice to be with a mixture of people on different courses, and remind yourself there is a life outside lectures and lambing!

Yep, I'm in my fourth and final year  last exam next week! Then I'm off to do Vet Med as a post-grad. I'll miss Bristol though, I would definitely come back once I'm a qualified vet!

Make sure you are happy with your second choice as much as your first. I think literally the majority of people put Goldeny as their first choice. I only knew one person on my course that had got in. Everyone else put it as their first choice but ended up elsewhere!

It is checked by vet lecturers so should be reliable. Revised the entirety of alimentary, urinary and repro anatomy and physiology off of it so it best be!! wikivet and our internal CAL is saving my degree touch wood!

*nods* Yep, it is reliable. And I def owe at least half my degree so far to wikivet, probably 1/4 to wikipedia and maybe 1/4 to actually making sense of my own notes!

 Well not really sure what our year group is classed as now, we are still 3rd years, but doing 4th year work. Scary how quick time is going!

And yep, by some miracle I passed. Think some upscaling of marks happened this year to avoid a repeat of last years carnage.

Good luck with your exams!

I'm not good at talking myself up either and tbh, once I was confident enough to talk to them comfortably, they didn't seem to be interested in asking me about what phenomenal qualities I had that made me stand out. They seemed much happier just having a chat, they ended up laughing at me quite a bit because I was so relaxed (for a change) that I wasn't really thinking about what I was saying before I said it, it was like I was talking to my friends. I would definitely suggest a job where you're in close contact with customers, I'd say something like waitressing is a bit more interactive than working in a store, you can't hide out round back and you need to make conversation. First time round I only had one, at Glasgow, due to some really crappy circumstances but I still got great feedback from Bristol too. This year, due to said circumstances, I only applied to Edinburgh and Glasgow and was interviewed at both.

I'm going to apply to Edinburgh and Glasgow next year, gonna try my hardest get a ob and build up my confidence  ..Liverpool gave me feedback but it wasn't very constructive and the RVC haven't got back to me just yet..I'm working my ass off to stand a chance in UCD too ..If I got there I'd be sorted but I'm prepared to try again and as you say work on my people skills X)

I ended up in Culver House, one of the Unite properties. We had so many problems with them! But it was a great location and we were freshers so we didnt really care, there was just too much else going on!
Of to Glasgow in the morning for a few days to get a tour about

Hi everyone, starting my equine/farm vet placement tomorrow. Any general tips, things to look out for/do, or anything to read up on tonight? Thanks

Take notes of everything you see!! Make them either when you have a quiet few mins or at night.... they are invaluable in PS/ interview!!

As for tips, ask questions, along the lines of what the vet is doing and why; again write their observations in your notes

People refer to it as 'The Bristol Bug' - nobody wants to leave! I'm incredibly jealous that a few of my friends have got jobs or phds here next year.

I'm off to Cambridge, which will be an adventure of its own!

I love Bristol too. I came back after doing my degree because home just was not as good! I will miss being here but I think I am going to love VetMed at RVc more  Plus I suppose I can always come back

Did you do undergrad at Bristol? That's true, I would live in a ditch in the middle of nowhere if it meant I could do VetMed  It's all going to be a new adventure too, which is really exciting. I've got one friend studying VetMed and one studying biovet at RVC, they both absolutely love it! The Hawkshead campus is absolutely great too, you'll have an amazing time I'm sure
