I do not envy you ladies and gents that had exams to do and are now waiting to hear. Remember that even if you dont get the grades this year its not the end of the world. I ddint get them and I had an amazing 3 years at Bristol and am still off to do vet science in the end anyways.
Of course you will all do fine and get all your grades so do not worry!

P.s Everyone thinks they did bad when they come out of exams so dont worry. Most people go on to do very well indeed so make the most of the freedom, you are about to spend 5 long years of hard work!

if i dont get the results that I need,
DO I have to write a completely new personal statement? I wouldn't have any new work experiences so my p.s. wouldnt be that different and so I'll have to book them real quick after getting results....

Do something totally unrelated to vet med! If you got accepted this year, I presume you have demonstrated sufficient passion and knowledge for vet med through/from both your personal statement and your previous work experiences (and the only thing that's holding you back is the academics, right?)

That said, life's not all about vet med, and I'm sure these colleges recognize that, too. Do something that will be meaningful or adventurous. Get to know yourself better. Do something crazy. Walk around the whole country with a backpack, or go climb Mt Everest. Ultimately, whatever you do, if you take the time and the effort to achieve something, you'll get much out of it that will help you in the future. And the universities will treasure that experience.

I wouldnt reuse the exact same PS, even if you havnt really done much else extra. I know RVC for example say that they will attach you previous years application to your current one (not sure how true this is but since they took the effort to say it it could be). It wouldnt look very good if you gave them the exact same PS because it looks like you havnt really done anything extra after your application, or put in any extra effort into your reapplication. They might see it as you not being that bothered and you dont want to take that risk.

Maybe reword bits and add in others. The thing about PS is it can always be improved upon

I chose to edit my ps because you need to say something about what you're doing in your gap year. But by the time I finished editing it was unrecognisable from my ps from last year - mind you one uni interviewed me from last years ps :s. I chose to do a bit more work experience just to show i was still keen and being proactive. hope that helps... good luck with your results

Just a question for current vet students. I was wondering why more students don't write blogs? Is it only down to a factor of not having enough free time or are there restrictions put on students by the vet school? If its the latter what are you not allowed to talk about/, I understand a lot wiLl be down to common sense but have they ever told you what you should and shouldn't maybe be posting? Only I wanted to start a blog when I start vet school but I don't want to break any rules. Thanks

I suspect it's more to do with the lack of time than anything as at Nottingham we even had a session encouraging us to blog. (Despite that I only know of two people who do.) We are given guildlines on what is or isn't appropriate to post about but it's mostly common sense, owners permission for photos, don't rant about your EMS placement, or post anything else unprofessional.
I'm sure you'll find it fairly easy to blog within your vet schools guidelines, especially as providing you don't post anything derogatory it's good publicity for them

This is probably a really stupid thing to ask but I'm currently trying to decide if it's worth me buying a laptop to take to uni with me. I've firmed RVC and will be staying at home for the first two years so will have my PC to work on at home (if it survives that long), but I don't know if it'd help me to have a laptop that I can work on while I'm in uni. Thoughts?

I was originally thinking of buying a laptop for college as well, but previously there was a post from a current RVC student that all lecture notes are given out as hand-outs.... And I honestly prefer taking notes in the good old pen and paper style as well... So I'll opt for a desktop and a thick stash of notepaper and red pink green blue purple pens!

Seriously dont worry about buying a laptop for uni if you already have access to another computer. Laptops are completely redundent for taking lecture notes. Your notes make more sense when you can annotate lecture slides and diagrams. I dont know a single person in my first degree (or friends degrees) that used a laptop in lectures past about the third week! They all gave up trying. Pen and paper works much better.

Also Universities are really well equipped with computers. If you needed to do any work whilst at uni, you would probably be better off using a flash drive and one of the unis computers. Most of the time you will need to use one of their specific programs which you wont have installed on a laptop anyways.

In conclusion you really really dont need to buy a laptop specifically for uni. As long as you have something at home you can use, you definatly can get by very comfortably without lugging one all the way to uni

At RVC there are a billion computers available 24/7 and we also loan out netbooks for 3 hours at a time when the library's open so you'll always have access to one at uni. Before RVC I had never seen anyone use a laptop in lectures (I did English Lit at uni before) but there is a bit of a trend to annotate the lecture handouts which are also released online before the lectures on iPads, swish computers etc...I personally have found that you're better placed to concentrate with a pen and a set of ears!

I am indeed I get bored in the summer holidays otherwise Also if I miss my grades, it means I have more w/e to fall back on

The LA side of the practice is quite quiet, whilst the SA clinics are currently going berserk... so I went in and watched SA consultations instead of being bored in the practice office, waiting for an LA call
