    I'd get maybe a slight more vet work experience, but that seems fine. Your owork experience is very good

    Thank you I've booked in a week at small animal vets for October (but after personal statement is sent off) do you think I still need more vet work experience? Just finding it hard to get it in large animal vets :/

    Thank you

    Seeing as we're on the topic of work experience.. This is my pathetic amount:

    1 week - 48 hours - (accumulated hours since August 2010) at an animal sanctuary
    1 week stables - 35 hours - (at 2 different stables)
    2 weeks at a small veterinary practice - 76 hours
    7 and a half hours at farms
    5 and a half hours at Dogs Trust

    I'm going to a kennels, 9 to 5, for five days this week. And after that hopefully returning to a farm to help with sheep and stuffs.
    Any suggestions on what else to focus on? I'm trying to organise large animal vets atm. Currently my ideas include; canine hydrotherapy centre, grooming parlor, two days at an abattoir. But I don't wanna risk my application by trying to do too much. ><

    Hey guys, not really posted in here before but just wanted to hear your opinions!

    So far i've got;
    1 week Society for Abandonded Animals (Cats, Dogs & Rabbits)
    1 week Falconry (Birds of prey, aquatics and petshop)
    2 week stables
    2 weeks equine vets
    1 week zoo

    Also booked in;
    2 weeks emergency vets (SA)
    and looking for 1 more week animal husbandry.

    Anything you guys think i'm missing/would benefit from? I'm thinking of lambing or dairy farm for the week of animal husbandry to be booked!

    I've managed to avoid that but did get almost weed on once. The worst bit is you can smell it before it comes but don't know which cow it's coming from XD
    I ended up just getting splashed because I scooted out the way in time.

    haha my head hasnt been **** on yet but it did get my arm, but to be honest im half used to being covered in cow ****, and it makes a change cus im usually covered in sheep. and stir fried giblets ur not doing too badley, i havnt got that much week wise: 1 week mixed vets, 1 week kennels, 3 days lambing on some1 elses farm, 2 days pigs, about a week stables but thats ongoing whenever i can get there basicly, doing a week dairy this week and got 5 days hydrotherapy booked, theoreticly got time at equine vets, and can go to an abattoir if i want to, think i will do a day. that seems more than it is but only adds up to 6 weeks of definate stuff, i also have a year of ongoingly vets every other sat morning. but i do have 5 years ish of sheep and beef cus of own farm, but they dont really count that.

    Well done with the personal statement!! Mine is looking a mess lol

    How often have you worked at the cattery and for how long? How long have you been walking dogs for dogs trust? Although I'm not so sure on the english system I'm going to guess that year 9 was about 2 or 3 years ago? If so I'd aim to do a week at the stables just to have some solid recent work experience. I asked a vet school about my stable work experience that I did 3 or 4 years ago and that was their advice to me

    Sorry it took like 3 weeks to reply I went on holiday :P Erm I've done like 25 hours walking dogs in the dogs trust. In the cattery it varied between 2 and 4 times a week it started off with 3 to 4 times but when I went to college it was either once or twice a week.

    Oh gosh is anyone else nervous for thursday? That's scottish applicants only I guess.

    On the subject of work experience I think i'm ok but what do you guys think, this is what I have;

    1 hour every monday since September 2010 Small animal clinic (DVG)
    2 weeks large animal call outs and surgery observation(DVG)
    2 hours ever wednesday during school terms since June 2011 large animal call out and surgery observations (GVG)
    2 weeks Kennels and Cattery (CKC)
    1 full day lambing (AF)

    and this is what I plan to get;

    1 week exotics (GWP)
    1 Day vet labs (DSCD)
    1 weekend milking (AF)
    7 days (consecutive saturdays) Stable work
    2 more weeks kennels and cattery (CKC) < this will be after the application is sent as it's in the october hols

    Your experience with vets is good, and going to a labs is nice to have as it's different to what most have. However, I think the uni's like to see more experience with animal husbandry as well, a week at a stables would be ok, but a weekend milking and a day lambing is very little, would you be able to do a bit more in that area?

    Your best bet in my opinion is to try and meet Liverpools requirement of 10 weeks, approximately 4 at vets and 6 in animal husbandry (being kennels/cattery, stables, farm, etc).

    I take it Thursday must be Scottish results day, so good luck! Hope all goes well for you.
