WOW i think i have the worst luck ever, feeling so down...you won't believe it!!
OK I am a student on a unplanned gap year, the reason for this is because I missed my offer last year which was AAA. So I've applied to uni again, I got some offers. I firmed sheffield in which I have to get AA in physics and maths. I revised so hard and finally on results day in march I got the A. In maths I still had the chance to get an A because I could do some exams in summer, which I have completed. Anyway I firmed sheffield and got my confirmation letter 2 weeks ago from UCAS. However I just checked my e-mail and there was an e-mail from ucas track. It said unsuccessful next to my firmed choice and firm next to my insurance!! I am so confused as to why, when i clicked on it, it just said your application has been unsuccessful and the conditions of your offer is AA in physics and maths !! This doesn't make any sense, can they withdraw my application?? Plus what makes it worse is today was the last day that I could change my university choices, so if they did I can't go to my other choices which are well better than my insurance. Has any one got any answers or advice please...I am so depressed about this, I have taken a whole year to get into sheffield University!!

Re: WOW i think i have the worst luck ever, feeling so down...you won't believe it!!
I think, as far as I remember from when I did my ucas.. They can actually withdraw. I remember something like this happend to my friend.
If I were you I would ring and ring and ring.. and pester like mad!! I know so many people who have actually mannaged to sway their uni's believe it or not. Even if they just give you an interview.
If not, I know your heart is set on it, but has it occured to you that maybe it's just not MEANT to happen? Not getting in to my first choice was the best thing that ever happend to me. -
Re: WOW i think i have the worst luck ever, feeling so down...you won't believe it!!Yep, I will phone them up but I don't think their open on saturday. It looks like monday is the earliest time to contact them which is just making me more mad !(Original post by peterejhamilton)

First ask for information, dont dive in with accusations. If they say they have rejected you or changed their mind have some good arguments/reasons up your sleeve for asking them to give you an offer.
If they do admit error or actually regardless of outcome make sure you find out what consequently needs to be done by them and by you so you don't fret too much time away thinking and panicking over what's going to happen next.
Hope that helps

Re: WOW i think i have the worst luck ever, feeling so down...you won't believe it!!Sorry but this is a load of crap. How can you know whether or not getting your firm or your insurance was the best thing to happen to you? Yes your life might have turned out very well for it but how can you say that it wouldn't have turned out better had you got into your first choice uni?(Original post by Ilovewords)

Thinking like this helps no one, it may sound like you're giving optimistic advice but in reality it's meaningless. I know it sounds like I'm being harsh but I'm just stating the facts. In your situation there's no point dwelling on what could have been had you got into your first choice uni, you're happy as it is, so that's fine but don't say it was the best thing to ever happen to you because that's just a lie. You simply cannot know.
The OP however has a chance to actually get where he wants to be, if he rings up the uni, enquires and pesters there is a chance he can still get an interview or get in, saying to him "Well look, it worked out for me" only encourages him to settle for second place, which isn't a good mindset to put someone into. -

Jesus.
I gave him advice and told him to ring up... But if he can't get in what's the point being down about it?!!
If the OP doesn't get into his first choice after all of that work.. he's going to spend his entire life wondering why he wasn't good enough.. and THAT is a bad mindset. -
Re: WOW i think i have the worst luck ever, feeling so down...you won't believe it!!Not really, thinking about why you didn't achieve something leads to thinking what you did wrong. Knowing what you did wrong means you can avoid making the same mistakes and before and improve upon those mistakes, leading to a better person.(Original post by Ilovewords)

Ignoring the mistakes and living in a deluded state where you think it's the best thing to ever happen to you achieves nothing and is just kidding yourself. -
