Re: RAF Airman Application Process
Thanks a lot mate appreciate it. Just a little update, i've got the letter from the AFCO and apparantly i'm sitting my selection test on wednesday! Can't believe how quick the ball is rolling already.
Edit: I've been doing a lot of revision for the AST and i was wondering how the scoring for the tests breakdown? Is a group score of 60 what i should be hoping to achieve as my overall score? One last thing, NR2 relates to understanding and interpretation of numerical info, but what does VR2 cover? In the booklet i received it only mentioned VR as an overall category.
Apologies for all the questions but it seems sensible to prepare myself as best as i can!Last edited by tbradshaw89; 16-03-2012 at 21:40. -
Re: RAF Airman Application ProcessAh cheers for that i'll check it out.(Original post by chelsea.grenner)
by the way, my boyfriend did the same application process. He did practice tests at a site called jobtest prep. I think they are specifically geared for the RAF test. Good luck with it anyway! -
Re: RAF Airman Application ProcessI shouldn't have really mentioned what score you need for the job as it doesn't make any difference, you go there to do your best and that's what you will do.(Original post by tbradshaw89)

Verbal reasoning – How do you use and interpret written information?
Basically, if you look at RAF Careers page practice paper VR is the first section on that paper, it's about reading, understanding and selecting the right answer in the timeframe that you have, questions are structured in the way that might be little confusing at first but just read carefully and you'll be fine.
Even tho for Int Analyst you specifically need to score well in NR and VR, you also need to score decent in all of the other sections to obtain the required group score.
Hope this helps, best of luck for AST. -
Re: RAF Airman Application Process
Yeah i gave up trying to work out the exact required marks, considering i want to score as high as possible in each category anyway. I've been making up my own questions and so far i've found the most difficult thing is keeping to the time, obviously it will be a little easier in the real test as it's multiple choice so i can always make an educated guess if i'm coming up short.
Anyway i'm sure it will go ok. Thanks for all your help! -
Re: RAF Airman Application ProcessBy all means try the practice tests on those sites but there is absolutely no need to pay money for study guides / sample tests especially when they charge up to £70 like that one!(Original post by tbradshaw89)

Hundreds of people are accepted every year by investing nothing more than a bit of time and effort.

Re: RAF Airman Application ProcessYeah, there's a variety of sites out there but it's never worth paying for any of them.(Original post by tbradshaw89)
Oh yeah regarding that site, i took one look at it and realised it was a dead end. I tried a few sample tests but otherwise it seems like a waste of time and most importantly money.
This site has a few links to free ones (and some not so free), particularly here. Otherwise the good old speed distance time site is a good one for some mental arithmetic.
Note I'm not overly familiar with the content of the ASTs as I've never sat them but those sites helped me a bit with aptitude tests for OASCLast edited by jacet; 19-03-2012 at 20:12. -
Re: RAF Airman Application Process
Just realised I had this website saved in favorites, good for Numerical reasoning as questions are very similar to real test.

Ahh, same link as in jacets post.Last edited by Miza; 19-03-2012 at 20:37. -
Re: RAF Airman Application ProcessYou get your eyes tested at the Medical as well as everything else - Hearing etc.. That's what my friends gone through..(Original post by RFC)
do you have to get your eyes tested by an opticians before the medical as i did that with the army but wasnt given a form by the RAF, i wear contacts just incase they thought i wouldnt need one? -
Re: RAF Airman Application ProcessAlthough late, to answer this:(Original post by johnscullion2)
Regarding the the stages of training the three, what is stage 2 as i cant find it anywhere and i have my interview next wednesday thanks
I think there used to be 3 stages when i went through at RTC some years ago, but i looked at the site, it doesn't seem to mention that breakdown of it anymore.
When i went through the stages went like:
1: Arrivals, kit issued, learn how to maintain your kit and you barrack blocks, general service knowledge, drill. You would have exams on those things.
2: Regiment phase, learn about weapon handling, CBRN (or whatever it's called now), Force protection and first aid.
3: Blue phase, more drill, general service knowledge and pass-out prep.
If they mean Phase 1 and Phase 2 training, they are referring to RTC and trade training, which is dependent on what your job choice is as to where it will take place.Last edited by Yngwie-VanHalen; 25-11-2012 at 12:37.
