Ideals of equality. Absurd control vested in the hands of a few. Grossly unfair opportunities and quality of life. Snobbery. Entrenchment of inequality through inheritance of vast wealth. Disproportionate influence and power. Et Cetera. Without gross wealth, there would be no relative poverty, and thus less social resentment and hatred of the rich. Besides, there is great resentment at the inequal way countries have to rid themselves of problems caused by the activities of the rich (ie. debt taken on by UK government to recapitalise/nationalise RBS, Lloyds etc. then being paid off through cuts in public services rarely used by the rich). To say that it is merely jealousy is to a certain extent accurate, but when you have such gross inequality as there is in Britain (5% of population own 95% of wealth) and London (Somebody in the city of london 2000 times richer than somebody in tower hamlets, less than one mile away) jealousy and hatred and more generally resentment will invatiably be common. The question is, why do you defend a system which entrenches and supports such a disgusting social apartheid.

Generally, its not wealth in itself that people hate, it's inequality.

People who are rich because they simply inherited the money, and never had to earn it.
People who have earned lots because of nepotism.
People who have distorted veiws of reality because of their wealth. (i.e. People who think people who aren't as wealthy as them are somehow morally inferior, otherwise they'd be rich as well.)
People who feel they are entitled to their wealth and have no humility or sense of perspective to how lucky they are, don't treat their money with respect. I.e. blowing it on women and cocaine when there are children starving down the street.
People who get rich from exploiting others (i.e. the man who pays his staff minimum wage and reaps all the profits for himself, because if you had the power to control wages of your staff, why should you give them a better lifestyle? its not like their part of the company or their labour made you rich in the first place)

Good post
because some people are too thick to see the difference between standard rich and douche rich .
jealousy

Because to be rich you have to be a dick. If you can watch children starve to death and see homeless people begging for spare change and yet keep a large amount of money sat in your bank account...you are seriously morally ******.

(before anybody starts, yes I do give a lot to charity and yes when I graduate and start earning proper money I will find better places for it than my bank account or the local car dealership.)

Wtf. Guarantee you're a jealous tosser. It is not for you to decide what other people should spend there money on and anyway a lot of rich people give loads to charity.

Because the rich usually are so at the expense of the poor. A great proportion perpetuate the exploitation of the worker for the pursuit of profit for example. Those who are born into great wealth are further symptomatic of the inequality and injustice in society, where individual ability and merit are not nearly as valuable as an affluent upbringing in securing success.

How many instances are there where people become rich at the expense of the poor? Entrepreneurs create jobs for the poor, high earners pay vasts amounts of taxes to fund public services for the poor, many rich people give vast sums of money to charity to help the poor. If it wern't for rich people, the poor would be worse off than they are currently. Socialism is the equal distribution of poverty.

We hate snobs

Are you calling Alan Sugar a snob?

because they have it easier than we do.
My family is quite poor, my dad is unemployed and my mum is a midwife but I think hating the rich is so stupid. I look at the future and if I work hard at school and go to uni, I can get a decent job and have a decent quality of life. If people don't work hard they can't expect the state to pay for the same standard of living. I like rich people, I mean they are paying ridiculous amount of tax which is good for us, the top 5% of earners pay 53.8% of income tax, now that is unfair these people work hard and get taxed 50p in the pound for all their efforts. As for people who get money off their parents for doing nothing, some people get lucky and you shouldn't hate them for it, if I were in their situtation I wouldn't donnate it all to charity. I am just delighted to be in the situtation I am in were I have a chance to do well and not starving to death in Africa.

Saying you hate rich people makes you look like a chavy retard.
no matter what anyone says, its jealousy, hidden jealousy. i try not to be jealous, but its hard

I don't think it's necessarily jealousy. Mostly it's just the fact they have something undeserved and are flaunting it to improve their status.

I don't think people hate the rich, they hate an attitude that people associate with being rich, ie being condescending, snobbish, selfish, materialistic etc etc.

I can't count the times on tsr we hear how poor people are poor because they are lazy and don't work hard. I'm pretty sure miners worked bloody hard but were hardly wealthy. The system doesn't allow everyone the opportunity to become rich and often someone requires money in the first place to then create more money, ie by investing, property developing etc etc.

I think this pretty much sums it up here. People hate the negative things that are associated with a certain group or click and just frame everyone in that group with that.
aspoonfulofsugar
As the title says.

Just curious really, because everyone seems to be saying they should be wealthy etc. etc.

Why is that?

Because the Rich and there way of life there elitism there little clubs and social connections act a Barrier for the Rest of US

People hate the rich for the same Reason they hate Monopolies

not all rich people are bad e.g self made millionaires just as not all Monopolies are bad e.g google

Tell me, why does the world have to be such an unfair place :/

I always found it hard to fit into groups and make friends just because I felt different, I felt weird. The clothes I wore were different and other kids found them to be 'oddy'.

I thought there was something wrong with me until I recently joined a private high school. I realized there was not so much trouble with me but with the society with which I interacted. :frown:

I felt to be discriminated against. I was abused and kicked around :/ perceived as a born misfit and that just because it seemed that I was better off than the others.

I felt like a black guy. In that sense, the poor are just as bad as the rich - a bunch of pretentious bastards, if not worse.
Jealousy.
its easy to scapegoat

I do not hate the rich, I envy them.
Jealoussssss
Well tbh I don't hate all rich people, I know some rich family friends who are generally really nice people
HOWEVER

my school has a crew of rich snobs that stick together in rich only cliques, they act completely fake and have allegedly made a "burn thread" on a fb message bitching about people's appearances (including some of their own friends)....things like that just annoy me, and that's why i hate spoilt ********* who have been born into money.
