I'm on here a lot and I hear people talking about 2:1 and Firsts.
How does university grading work, since I guess that's what it is?

It based on the quality of the work. Most like 50- 60% of people get a 2.1. Its considered to be a normal result what most people get. Only the best get a first , 6- 10% of people

Top:

First Class Honours (First or 1st or 1:1 or 1) (70%+)
Second Class Honours, Upper Division (2:1 or 2.i) (60%+)
Second Class Honours, Lower Division (2:2 or 2.ii) (50%+)
Third Class Honours (Third or 3rd) (40%+)
Ordinary degree (Pass)

Bottom:

These are the classifications of degree which are achieveable and the average mark needed to achieve them.

A fair few employers will want a 2:1 at least.

70% + = 1st
60-69% = 2.1
50-59% = 2.2
40-49% = 3rd
30-39% = Pass i.e. ordinary degree without honours
<30% = Fail

I know everyone has quoted this. But...dude, cmon.

I'm sure the grade boundaries aren't universal but I may be mistaken.

It depends on subject and university.
