Computing degrees in current job scenario ?

I am proposing to come for an MSc from imperial (soft engg) .... i hav talked to some students of imperial and general about this and they say that the prospects are good specially coz of IB`s that take computing students from imperial ..... and also i read some articles regarding skill shortage in computing field in UK and good graduates not coming through and number of applications for university computing courses dropping ..... so all looked well

but on the other side ....there is news like this :
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/10477551.stm
graduates prospects are poor currently but now they r suggesting that
computing graduates are the worst hit .... as an international student i am not able to make out what exactly is the scenario and what to believe .... should i now doubt even imperial`s computing degree for getting me a job ??
no doubt the situation is grim ...but should i look at the overall job market (which is pathetic at the moment) or job market for comp science graduates (and whr can i find such info ?) Any advice would be gr8 help ....

A good place to start is to put your CV on recruitment agency sites (like Monster or something more IT specialist) and see what type of response you are getting. This is the only sure way of finding out how competitive you are in the current marketplace for jobs. It is not perfect because obviously some firms do not use recruitment agencies but it gives you an idea that is not based on hearsay or large non-specific surveys.
