On Results Day, Which Will You Do? (Uni Applicants)
I'm currently trying to decide which I will do, and thought I'd find out everyone else's opinion while I'm at it.
On Results Day (August 19th), you have two options to find out your results.
UCAS Track updates at 7am, however this doesn't always apply to everyone on every course. So some may be able to find out which university has accepted them, but not their results at this time.
The other option is to wait until your school or college opens and get your results (grades) from the envelope.
So, which will you be doing? Check Track early or wait until you're with your friends?
USEFUL THINGS TO KNOW FOR THE DAY:
1) Take either your AS certificates with your individual modules on, or write them down and take them in. This means if you miss your offer, you can find out by how much and go from there. Don't rely on your school or college to do this for you.
2) Make sure there is credit on your phone! You may need to do some lengthy calling and seriously, can you imagine being in negotiations with your university and your credit cutting out? Get a top up!
3) Get the Admissions Office numbers for your Firm and Insurance choice and take them with you.
4) Know exactly what the conditions of your offer are for both your Firm and Insurance.
5) If you end up in Clearing, or your Track doesn't update, the ONLY place that the FULL Clearing list will be in is The Independent.
6) Track updates at 7am and will tell you only what university (if any) you have gotten in to. It won't tell you your individual grades.
(Original post by PQ)
Just a few things
1) Track will not show you your results
It will show if your firm/insurance have confirmed (it'll go to unconditional) or rejected (it'll go to unsuccessful) you - IF they've decided and sent that decision to UCAS.
2) If Track shows your firm place confirmed this does NOT mean you've met your offer
It's very possible that you've been accepted with missed grades so don't go into school/college to get your results thinking you know what they'll say.
3) If Track shows your firm choice has rejected you this does NOT mean you've missed your offer
Although it's very very likely that you have mistakes do happen so as above - don't draw any conclusions on WHAT your grades are based on what's on Track
4) Track does not update for everyone on results day morning
Last year around half of applicants had NO CHANGE showing on Track on results day morning. Their firm/insurance choices either hadn't decided OR had decided but not sent their decision through to UCAS in time for it to show.
5) Track will go live at around 6-7am on results day morning
It won't go live at midnight. UCAS say midmorning because their deadline is 8am and they don't want to have Track knocked over by everyone logging in at once.
Once Track has gone live it is generally then re-frozen until midday on results day - so if it's showing no change at 7am then there's NO POINT in hitting refresh like a demon, you need to get your phone numbers together and collect your results so you can ring.

Re: On Results Day, Which Will You Do? (Uni Applicants)
I'd say track, just in case. So you can grab the independant on the way for clearing places, get some credit on your phone so you can ring unis and be prepared. You'll have more time to get over not getting your place as well before ringing around.
I'm checking track me. I have to know. -
Re: On Results Day, Which Will You Do? (Uni Applicants)Yeah, see, as lovely as it would be to open my results with everyone else, I'd rather be prepared. Know where I'd gotten in, have stuff ready just in case.(Original post by Loz17)

But then again you could prepare for all eventualities and just be surprised.
Dun think I'd want to open my results and be disappointed potentially in front of everyone. I'd rather have a cry with my Mum and then go and sort stuff. -
Re: On Results Day, Which Will You Do? (Uni Applicants)
The Plan....
- Track all night (even though I know it wont do until morning)
- If accepted, then chill, go pick up results as and when
- If not...*panic*, and go to college at the earliest poss time with all my documents and ring Sheffield and do some begging.
I've gone through my plan a million times! Scary times. -
Re: On Results Day, Which Will You Do? (Uni Applicants)
I got mine last year but I was far too impatient and had to check Track before I went and got my results... at least then if I knew I'd screwed up I could cry and get it over with before going to school.
My sister will be getting her results this August and she's going to check Track too. -
Re: On Results Day, Which Will You Do? (Uni Applicants)
i've been thinking about this and i really dont know what to do....i'm so scared i havn't got into my firm (think i've really messed up some exams) and i've lost all enthusiasm for my insurance. I get nervous just thinking about it !
I think i'd rather just not know and if I get a reading list/accommodation letter a few weeks later all the better! -

Re: On Results Day, Which Will You Do? (Uni Applicants)
ive been through all this and i what i did last year is check Track in the morning before you collect your result so you're mentally prepared for your results. In case you failed to get to both your firm and insurance you will prepared for clearing
