Re: The New Architecture FAQ
Hello there! I'm new here and I really, really want to study architecture in UK. My favourite universities so far are Nottingham, Huddersfield and University of Cardiff. In highschool I participated in many different activities, and tried many different arts. I want to know what is acceptable as a part of my portfolio. Is it just drawings and painings, or could I include also my own musical pieces, pictures of sculptures, and highlights from my drama performances?

Re: The New Architecture FAQ
I know this sounds rude, but those portfolios make it look easy to be accepted in this particular course ...in other countries you need to work like a slave for two years to learn architectural drawing (in your final high school years) and then sit a 5 h long examination to actually be accepted on the course ... :|

Re: The New Architecture FAQWe don't have the option of architecture courses in high school in the UK. Maybe if we had them we would do them c:(Original post by tiny golden key)

What other countries do is their choice I guess. The UK has had may successfully architects so the system can't be that bad. -

Re: The New Architecture FAQ
Hello, i have a quiestion about the architecture field; i am interested in the whole architect career but i am more interested in the part of designing and drawing them out on CAD on computer, rather then being the person creating them from scratch
could u tell me which field this is and what a good course would be to study at uni?
Thanks -
Re: The New Architecture FAQJust drawing I believe. At my interview, the interviewer said that the folio was to demonstrate your ability to draw 3-D. I suppose to some extent your other work demonstrates creativity?(Original post by Airdancer)

I would probably play it safe- just art.

Re: The New Architecture FAQIt's not really worth it, takes too long, the info get dated within months, and everyone worth their salt does this research in-depth themselves using the uni websites anyway. The info in the first post is clearly explained and dated and thorough, and a good starting point.(Original post by Winchester)

Positive Rating!
When you're going to update some of this stuff?
If anyone wants to do the update them let me know, it has to be a complete update though, no point just telling me one uni has changed, you have to start from the current RIBA list of accredited unis then go through the course pages, convert grade requirements to the same format, add any other notes they list. We can request mod powers to start the thread again if anyone is up for this. -
Re: The New Architecture FAQOh, I see your point, I think I would not like this kind of job either, however hope someone will decide to do this in order to help lazy ones.(Original post by GormlessWonder)

Re: The New Architecture FAQ
Hi guys, i'm interested in architecture at Bath. I've just seen entry requirements:
"Typical Offer: 38 points with 6 in HL Mathematics or 7 at SL Mathematics, with the majority of offers to candidates studying Mathematics to HL.
The following is a list of IB subjects considered 'less effective preparation' for our degree. This list is not exhaustive and is only included for guidance:
Business and Management
Information Technology in a Global Society
Theatre Arts."
I'm taking Maths HL, Business&M HL, English B HL, Physics SL, Polish A SL German SL.
I'm blind or Bath doesn't require portfolio? How does it look like in their case? -
Re: The New Architecture FAQ
If I could afford to go to the AA I'd go there. Because it's so cutting edge. Has brilliant lecturers and a cosmopolitan student life. The teaching method is a philosophy and The Location in the centre of London is awesome.
I'm sure the others are good to.Last edited by Arketec; 24-04-2013 at 17:44.
