hi im starting my a levels this year, and i need help choosing my fourth. ive chosen chemistry, history, biology but im stuck between either english lit/lang, psychology or pe. anybody who has done either english, psychology or pe could you tell me what is the most respected, enjoyable a level. i wanna do something like chemistry, biology or physiotherapy at university so which of the three would suit me best? thanks.

Out of everyone I know taking PE, none of them say that it's hard (quite the opposite in fact), but it does depend on whether you would like it. Have you looked at the syllabus?
I personally enjoyed the English Literature course immensely, but have probably done badly in the exam (but that's because I'm ****e at writing under timed pressure). Are you willing to out yourself through writing a lot of essays and do you enjoy painfully thorough analyses of texts?

PE might suit your future choices for higher education well, but don't think about that too much, because at the end of the day you want something that's nice and satisfying to come out of your studies along with good grades.

I've done both Language and Lang&Lit for AS, and they're both really interesting. The combined course is quite challengin, but at the same time it's good to have the freedom to discuss what you want a still pick up marks. As Chiseph say though, the exam is quite difficult for anyone who struggles to write quickly.

To be honest, if you want to do something like Chemistry you'd look better with maths. For physiotherapy you'd be better with PE.

I don't quite know what to say. Because I hate all the choices you've made. But PE is ridiculous I know that, for sure. Psychology is quite annoying, but that's on the basis that English is worse. So I'd do psy.

Have you considered maths...?

i have considered maths yes, but the subjects are arranged in blocks, so you can only choose one of four blocks. chemistry, history and biology are all subjects i really enjoyed at gcse and think i could do well in, but theyre the only blocks with maths in them. i was thinking about resitting maths gcse in sixth form to bump my grade but maths is pretty impossible. just saying as well, if i change my mind about physiotherapy, then a level pe will be completely useless right, which is what im worrying about as ive heard its useless unless going to sports

I want to study english with creative writing or business at university.

The A Levels I plan to take are
-english language and literature
-business studies(no offer of economics)
-sociology

For my fourth AS, would it be better to take classics or accounts, bearing in mind that only 38 percent of people at my college get A*-C in classics whereas 96 percent get A*-C in accounts.

Do what you think you'll do best in, don't judge purely by statistics. If you're more interested in a particular topic, chances are you'll do better in it as a result.

I'm intent on studying English Literature at university.. are my A-levels okay?

- English Literature
- History
- French
- Chemistry

I'm slightly concerned about Chemistry,but I love it so much and just couldn't drop it! Would it be in any way detrimental to, or put me at a disadvantage for a uni application for English Literature?

No, I think it they wouldn't but u ahead as an advantage as such 'cos they'll probs be looking at the lit grade, however chemistry is a hard a level & if u can get a good grade, even at AS it's a good thing to have to gain points from!

No, no essays in year 12 (AS) however u do have a 40 mark answer which will be a small essay in yr 13. That's doing Aqa.
History I haven't done not even at gcse however if it all the sources then yep essays, my friend does history & geog she prefers history however she only took geog 'cos she had nothing else.
I do geog just done AS exam, basically u have 4 units = 25 marks each. I.e population, you'll proba answer a q on a graph or like a keyword= 3 Then maybe a 7 mark q. Finishing with 15 mark one. & no coursework

No, as long as you've got literature and history you'll get plenty of essay practice

I want to go into the scientific field, I'm alright at maths, I got a B at GCSE but i think I could have got an A if I actually worked in year 10.
Do I NEED maths? And am I going to struggle with the calculations in chemistry? Do I need to be like a maths whiz or is it more of a learn the formula kinda thing?

I'm hoping for A*/A in chemistry and A but will probably be a B in biology for GCSE. I'm prepared to put the work in just scared I wont be able to do it?

There's a lot of info to learn, I found that no matter how much I revised I still hadn't learnt everything if you know what I mean...
And it can be extremely boring at times

I've chosen Biology, Chemistry, Maths and German.
If anyone has done any of these/is doing any of these I would love to have some advise!
1. Was there anything you wish you had done at the beginning of the course ie in terms of revision, research?
2. What's the jump like for German? When I was choosing I was deciding between French and German and I was better at French (because I've been doing it longer) but I was also good at German and I was starting to get fed up of French and my German teacher told me she had no worries about me taking German A Level, but I'm still apprehensive, I'm a confident linguist but I am aware language A Levels are difficult and I would hate for German to drag down the sciences and Maths because (I want to to medicine) I don't want that to happen... does anyone hear me?

Got a B at GCSE as well, im doing fine. Just learn to keep on top of things in AS so you dont have to do any resits in A2 (or as much resits in A2), would be my advice.

Not really, you've got bio and chem, which is good. You've got a variety a subjects.

You mean if you dont take maths? No. Just know how to rearrange formulae and stuff.

Well, as long as you realise that GCSE chemistry is nothing like A level chemistry, then you'll be fine. Again, keeping on top of work, helps
