Discussion for A-Level students and for those choosing their A-Level subjects.

Re: Choosing your A levels? Your questions answered here!I know many universities expect variety in subjects when applying to Economics, and you definitely have that covered already in your first three choices. Economics isn't always a requirement at A-level for entry into an Economics degree, but if you were to take it then I would recommend making sure your college put in any application that you were only able to take it to AS.(Original post by bluelezah)
I want to study business or economics in university
Business Studies is seen as a 'soft' subject, even if applying for a Business Studies degree. Religious Studies isn't particularly the strongest subject choice, but on a whole I would advise you to opt for taking Religious Studies and Economics. -
Thanks for the help!!!☺(Original post by Tullia)

Re: Choosing your A levels? Your questions answered here!
Hi, just looking for advice on AS levels. I am interesting in doing either english literature, ppe, or law at university, so i want to keep my options open. I want to do english lit, history, maths, spanish and further maths OR economics. However, I am struggling to choose between the last two - any advice? which do universities prefer?
Also, is doing 5 ASs too much? (I am targeted 13 A*, and I go to a state school, not a public one)Last edited by 08jennia; 09-08-2012 at 11:14. -
Re: Choosing your A levels? Your questions answered here! For the courses you're interested in then Economics would be more useful than FM - but it's up to you which one you think you will do best at, you've already got 4 subjects that are idea for the courses you're interested in so you can pick whichever you'd enjoy/do best at for the 5th(Original post by 08jennia)

Re: Choosing your A levels? Your questions answered here!If you are targeted for 13A*s (how are you even doing so many?) then doing 5 should be fine. I did F.Maths, Physics, chem, Psych and English Lit this year and am hoping for 5As (and 90%+ for sciences/maths) so it is perfectly doable (and I only got 8A*s at GCSEs, not 13(Original post by 08jennia)

, although I was predicted 10/10).In fact i would encourage you to definitely do 5 because otherwise you will most likely become bored, although English, Spanish and History will take up more work-time than my sciences. Your college/sixth form will probably let you drop one if you feel you need to after a few weeks.
As for which to choose, choose the one you enjoy most because both are useful for ppe (economics probably better for law, but with english, history, spanish it won't matter). -

Oh, it's 13 because I'm doing triple science, I.t counts as 2, and i did my french early. don't think i'll get all a* though, tbh.(Original post by PythianLegume)

Thank you
Finding it really difficult to choose between them, as people at the 6th form have said that f. maths is the only subject that is generally done as a 5th, but I think that economics will be more interesting. So, im just trying to get some opinions on which would be more useful/ better

Re: Choosing your A levels? Your questions answered here!Universities usually want chemistry and biology is often considered useful for medicine - so yeah,i think, that should be fine.(Original post by foreverstrong_97)
Hey everyone!

My biggest concern is my fourth A Level is appropriate!
-
Re: Choosing your A levels? Your questions answered here!As long as you have chemistry and biology, it shouldn't really matter what other subjects you take, so your 4th option is fine.(Original post by foreverstrong_97)

Obviously check on the respective university websites as well as here http://search.ucas.com/cgi-bin/hsrun...ICINE&single=Y to make sure. -

Re: Choosing your A levels? Your questions answered here!5 subjects is a lot of work and it won't help your uni application too much. But if you are willing to work hard (and judging by your target grades, it looks like you will do) then go for it! Your courses don't require further maths or economics so both should be fine. Further maths is a better option to take as a fifth subject but if you have more of an interest in economics, then do economics. So I advise you to do the subject you think you'll enjoy the most as you're more likely to do well in a subject that you enjoy.(Original post by 08jennia)

What do people think about these for Medicine:
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Physics
- Philosophy ('til AS)

Re: Choosing your A levels? Your questions answered here!If you think you'll enjoy it, then there's no harm in taking it. I mean, you have three strong, appropriate a-level subjects anyway. I don't see how it could do any harm.(Original post by foreverstrong_97)
