By the fact that i have family in St. Andrews and applied to St. Andrews as well perhaps?
If you do get the train, and have to go at a busy time, the extra for first class can be well worth it if you are booking a bit ahead.

Given the deal the taxi firm are offering for orientation, i would take that, also try find somebody else from here who will be in Edinburgh around the same time to half the costs, though normally i would advise getting the train.

I sent an email to st andrews direct and I think I will definitely go with them because they also would let me take additional luggage without extra fees (since I would be arriving in orientation week). I will keep everyone posted. I'm yet to hear/find from accommodation so I've got quite the tasks ahead!
