Just remembered - if you're a girl, on top of the room inspections, you'll get a "women's bin" in your bathroom which gets emptied monthly.

Also, it's not quite like living in your own accommodation, it's more like a hotel... Housing services have no qualms about randomly entering your room to do stuff without prior warning... for example one time they did a room inspection while I was out and noted that a light was dodgy in my bathroom. The next day, maintenance randomly came round and fixed it. They do knock first though.
A woman walked into my friend's room while he was 'at it'. That's embarassing.

I'm a lad, so that women's bin thing probably won't concern me. I'm probably never going to be "at it", no matter how hard I try. (sigh)

I have to say, having had a tour of the accommodation last week, I'm very impressed - Those buildings are oh-so-shiny. Is it really true that some cleaners do the dishes?

Also, I noticed a fair amount of litter in the footpaths below founders - does that get cleared up on a regular basis, just for summer or not at all?

I've heard that some of the cleaners in Gowar do the dishes, and I know that some of the ones in Runnymede/Reid will too.

I'm in Wedderburn, and whilst our cleaner doesn't do our dishes she's very nice. She's not much of a talker, but I do try to say hi. One night, we made an utter mess of our kitchen, there was shredded newspaper on the floor, the table was all sticky where we'd spilled drinks, and it was littered with all sorts of crap.

I was getting some tea when the cleaner came in, and told her to just leave everything and that we'd do it later (she usually wipes our table down etc). When I came back in later, the table was clear and everything was sorted in neat piles on it. I felt really bad XD

Thing with the cleaners is that a lot of them are extremely nice but students tend to be quite rude to them. What bothers me is that these people aren't servants and deserve respect. A simple hello is often enough.

I can answer some of your questions, though I'm sure there are other people on here able to answer anything else for you.

Firstly, when you apply for accommodation, Butler, Tuke and Williamson are grouped together, and Gowar and Wedderburn are grouped together- you can't just choose Butler, for example. You'll probably have to apply for halls with everyone else around sort of springtime next year (someone else can be clearer on exact dates- I can never quite remember), and then you'll find out where you're living at the beginning of summer, probably.

The halls you're interested in are the most popular halls on campus, but as a deferred applicant and an unconditional offer holder, you'll be pretty much at the top of the priority list as there's no doubts over whether or not you'll get the grades. I was an unconditional offer holder myself, and I got my first choice, so I'd be surprised if you didn't (there's no guarantee, though).

Rent is payed termly, though the first term (as it's the longest) costs the most, the second term costs a little less, and the third term is the cheapest. Payment is via the internet, and as far as I know credit card is okay but there might be some sort of a fee incurred, whilst with debit card there is no fee.
    This.
And (although the person who asked has probably already applied now) you have to rank all the options in order.
But like llacerta says unconditionals have a pretty good chance of getting what they want...unless of course they wait till the last moment (i'm guessing).

Is it possible to stay in Halls for the full length of the course?
(I'll be doing a 4 year Geology Masters)

It's possible, but extremely unlikely unless you get a scholarship as first years and postgrads get priority and that's already stretching it

    This.
But unless you get certain scholarships, have medical priority or are an international student (don't even get me started on how much i hate the special treatment they get) its unlikely you'll (fibrebiz) get halls every year.

I'm happy to be contacted about History, so feel free to add me.
Hi i was wondering if you could give me an insight into what type of timetable you get in 1st year as I have to commute from the dartford area every day (mature old student) and also need to work a bit to fund studies

It's around 6-8 hours a week in first year, when those hours are varies per course. I do know however that they are sensitive to the needs of mature students so if you need a particular seminar due to work commitments they'll happily put you in there. I know that a mature student in my Georgians course got a seminar shifted by an hour becuase of child care needs. Just have a chat with them if you have a conflict. You won't get a timetable until the end of freshers week as you'll be choosing two of your courses then.

Don't mean to sound rude but of course the weather is similar to london. "how sunny" (that's not really something you can measure)? If you mean how hot then about the same as london...wednesday was pretty hot but so was most of the country.

So i missed the deadline for accommodation... i saved my application but i cant pay the deposit yet I know I'm going to be put on the waiting list but what are the chances of getting Reid or term time tuke/butler? also if I'm allocated halls but i didn't want the place I'm allocated could i request somewhere else or would i have to just wait?
Term time Tuke is unlikely just because it appears to be highly sought after- the majority of those living there are gap yearers and hence unconditional offer holders who get precedence over conditional offer holders; I know from experience. But you might get Reid, possibly Kingswood. Difficult to say, really.
