Re: The Liverpool FC SocietyTbh I thought he was poor in this last season. A number of times when he did a last ditch tackle, it came about from him losing the ball in the first place(Original post by Deshi)
And who would you guys want to replace Mascher, as it looks like he's most likely leaving
?
Anyone we buy will be a step down but I hope its not Muntari, like I saw quoted in a paper today

A DM is a luxury which allows the rest of the team to attack and stop us being hit on the counter but even last season, I dont think Masch was doing his job that well. He was so busy trying to be the hero (with his 40 yard pot shots), that he didnt even do his basics (such as covering Johnson imo).
I think a number of players at a reasonable price will easily fulfill what Masch was doing last season. Since we're not in the CL either, I dont think we pure/amazing DM is as important as past seasons. In the Europa league *sigh*, teams will expect us to break them down, and most teams in the premier league will set up the same. Only like 4 or 5 teams in the league and if we get to the latter stages of Europa league would a DM be helpful, but can we justify having a £25mil player for such little of a season? Especially when many other parts of the squad needs improving?
His head has been turned since last summer tbh and hopefully with Barca selling Yaya and not replacing + Fabregas unlikely to move this season, between Inter and Barca, his price is pushed closer to the £30mil mark. -
Re: The Liverpool FC SocietySucks..LFC TV are unable to broadcast Liverpool's Europa League third qualifying round tie against FK Rabotnicki in Macedonia on Thursday.
The exclusive television rights for this match are owned by the host club and they have chosen to sell them to Primetime TV, a pay-per-view broadcaster that can be accessed via Sky on channel 480.
Rights have been secured by LFC TV to show the game in full 72 hours after the event and the return leg at Anfield on Thursday, August 4 will be free to view on ITV4.
Lets hope there is a stream somewhere

Re: The Liverpool FC SocietyHave you not given up on Cesc now?(Original post by Barça)
Our interest in Mascherano seems to be dead atm, Barca are looking at cheap options which would still allow them to bid for Cesc. Senna for €3m is the favoured option so far.
I can't see how you could of afforded both of them, or even fit both of them on the pitch. -
Re: The Liverpool FC SocietyNo, this will go on til the transfer deadline. Cesc is supposed to return from his holiday and have a meeting with Wenger on Friday to apparently force a move. Rosell went to London to meet with Wenger and Arsene seems to want money plus a canterano. We lost Toure and if we get in two midfielders that just means we have immense depth, so it won't be a problem.(Original post by DontBuyTheSun)

The Gunners skipper has been strongly linked with a return to Barca this summer, and the Primera Division champions have already seen a reported €35million (£30m) offer rejected.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stressed that he intends to keep the Spain international at the club as he sees him as integral to his side.
Barca have stated they are doing all they can to land Fabregas, who has five years left on his current contract, but the Gunners will not enter into talks.
"Arsenal don't want to sit down and negotiate with us," Freixa told reporters on Monday evening.
"It's not a problem with the wishes of Cesc or of Barca - they simply don't want to negotiate."
Meanwhile, Freixa also confirmed that the club are in the market for a holding midfielder following the departure of Yaya Toure to Manchester City.
"The technical secretary is working hard on that," Freixa said.

Re: The Liverpool FC Society
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Javier Mascherano wants to leave the club.
The Argentina international has been one of several Reds players to be linked with a move away following their disappointing seventh-place finish in the Premier League last season.
The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a reunion with Rafa Benitez, who brought Mascherano to Anfield in 2007 from West Ham but departed for Inter Milan in June.
The news will come as little surprise to many following the combative midfielder's lack of contact with Hodgson following his country's exit from the World Cup at the quarter-final stage at the start of July.
Find it a little strange. I mean we knew it was going to happen, but to come out and say it? Gives all the bargaining power to the buyers

There may be some VERY good news on the horizon though, but I'm not in much of a position to confirm it yet, it's just speculation.
Actually, I can. It looks like Nando's staying

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/lates...cherano-latestRoy Hodgson has today revealed that Javier Mascherano has expressed a desire to leave Liverpool - but insists the Argentina captain will remain at Anfield until the Reds receive a suitable offer.
The boss met the 26-year-old when he returned to Melwood on Monday morning and admits he was disappointed by the midfielder's decision.
"He wants to leave the club," Hodgson told an Anfield press conference.
"He's made that perfectly clear. I think he wanted to leave a year ago and he wants to leave now. But he's contracted to Liverpool Football Club, so whether he leaves or not is our decision. At the moment he's a Liverpool player and I will continue to treat him as such until a day arrives when he no longer is.
"The mere fact that the player is a little bit unhappy with his situation and would prefer to leave doesn't necessarily mean he will leave.
"It disappoints me but it's not unusual. In every football club in the Barclays Premier League - and in the world - there will be players that would prefer to leave their team. Some are allowed to, some aren't.
"So that's the situation. Mascherano is a Liverpool player, he has a two year contract and I expect him to honour that until the day comes when the club decides to accept an offer for his services." -

Re: The Liverpool FC SocietyLiverpool manager Roy Hodgson has ended months of speculation about Fernando Torres's future after the striker told him he is 'looking forward to playing for the club next season.'
Torres, 26, had been linked with a move away from Anfield all summer as he was believed to be chasing Champions League football next term. This had seen Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Barcelona rumoured to be lining up a British record £70 million swoop for his signature.
Speaking at a press conference to unveil the Reds' pre-season signings, the 62-year old was confident the Spain World Cup 2010 winner would spurn their advances.
He said: "As far as I know he is looking forward to coming back on Monday. He's enjoying the holiday which is a well deserved break, I don't think he's had one for three years.
"He's spending a lot of time with his family, as far as I know he is keeping a very low profile, not speaking to anybody but he has told us that he is looking forward to Monday.
"He is looking forward to getting back to work, looking forward to playing for Liverpool next season. That's what I know and all other reports I would suggest are erroneous."
