I have just been told by a friend that the OU will only count credits obtained with them towards the final degree, but will do credit transfer. This isn't true, is it?

Hmm sorry, I might be missing the point, but why would you credit transfer if it didn't count towards a degree? Just for the diploma/certs? Or maybe a second chance a higher classification - sneaky.

When making awards of transferred credit, we do not take into account the grades you achieved in your previous study. The final classification of your OU Honours degree will be based entirely on the grades you achieved in your OU courses or collaborative courses.

Following on from this, the classifications document says they use a minimum of 120 points of study to grade you. So, even if you were allowed a full 240 point transfer of your credits (120 pts per year) then you would be left with 120 of OU study at L3, which is enough to get a classification.

If you make a request for a credit transfer and you're approved, then it may counts towards your degree in different forms. Either not at all, purely for the free choice element, or for the subject specific element up to a maximum of 240 fulfilling L1 and L2 depending on circumstances (only the OU can answer that one through your transfer app) Which OU degree you want and the category it falls in to is listed here:

If in doubt, give them a call and talk to someone. They're very good on the phone.

Now, this is the point where you say: 'actually, I didn't mean that at all' :yep:

It happens often enough, may as well start adding disclaimers like that :p:
