Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

Re: My top 50...Not seen City of God, The Green Mile, Godfather 1 & 2 or Schindler's List. The others are quite delicious, although I'm not the biggest fan of Forrestioo.(Original post by spazman21)
One flew over the cuckoo's nest is the best film there. But, what about Godfather 1 and 2, Shawshank, There will be blood, No country for old Men, Green Mile, Goodfellas, Schindler's List, City Of God, Forrest Gump.
They're all great!!! -
Re: My top 50...After seeing city of god, it will definitely be on that list(Original post by Bunsher)

You seem to have a very similar taste in films to me, except I would put in Seven Samurai, City of God and the Fugitive, take out Bladerunner crap and make a few more adjustments -

How come you've all seen so little? Most of them are pretty famous and mainstream... :|
I've seen 15 or so in your list. Most people can't be arsed tracking down an old film they have zero interest in.
anyway.... Assault on Precinct 13!!
They Live is not one of Carpenter's best films, though
-
Re: My top 50...Maybe because many of them were produced some time ago? And not everyone watches as many films as you?(Original post by Bunsher)

I wouldn't call them mainstream to the current, prevailing generation, i mean, i haven't even heard of most of them - nor do many watch 'old' films nowdays. -
Re: My top 50...All of them, bar Green Mile, are absolute must see films. But, green mile is personal preference of mine (it is still worth seeing though).(Original post by Bunsher)

Re: My top 50...
Death Wish is a truly, truly nasty movie, nastier than Memento which is also truly nasty (and truly ****). Dirty Harry does nasty way better than either.
Prince of the City is easily Lumet's best film, particularly if you like Blade Runner. And if you like Blade Runner for the right reasons then you must like Alien and Escape from New York too.
As lists go, this one is better than yours (also USA-centric, if slightly less so; particularly shocking omissions are Feuillade and the Mabuse series):
