Oh no! But xxx means something very specific in the states - it's the common shorthand for pornography or "adult" material. I fear if I sign my letters as xxx it will come off less as "kiss kiss kiss, hudson river" and more like "porno, hudson river"
Really?? I don't think anyone in the UK would associate it with that A lot of people I know use xxx if they feel like it.

No accusations about being retarded here - there are cultural differences that sometimes aren't widely known (I had to be told you guys didn't mean "fag" in a derogatory way, which is the ONLY way Americans know it). Even some people in this thread say they never use xoxo!
Yeah, but not knowing it is hardly going to crack any skulls. We're not all robots with merely one way of communicating. Now don't be so insecure.

    Gossip girl :awesome:

One of my friends uses xoxo. I didn't know what it meant for years but I am all the wiser now. Still, xxxx is less...lame. IMO anyway :p: why does x have a negative connotation over there, out of interest?

I use tons of x's though, they're almost like a code round these parts. "x" for someone you don't really like, "xx" for acquaintance, "xxx" for politeness, "xxxxxxxxxxxx" = best friend/lover etc.

Considering my username for everything has some sort of "ox" in it, I know what it means. xD

    Either is fine really.

Anything more than a single X, which is really more than is neccessary, just looks childish.

Almost on the same level as adding 'lol' to the end of every sentence, like I see so many ******* girls doing on Facebook 24/7.

I tend to finish my messages with either a full-stop or ellipses
And i hardly ever notice the x's in other people's messages

Neither. All these Xs at the end of bloody everything are completely superfluous. Just use a full stop ffs.

    What the hell?

I'm surprised at some of the replies in this thread, loads of people in the UK use xoxo!

Just as many as people who sign off emails / SMS messages with xx as far as I know.

    I like to use =D=D=D=D.

Seriously though, I always find it annoying when people do that. Especially when they put one after every sentance.

When I think xoxo, I think Gossip Girl
    I'd say just stick to x / xx .. it's quicker anyway.

    I never do

Everyone seems to have different rules for the amount of x's to use when and for who....

Do some people actually read into it that much? Who cares?!
