Re: Sherlock Holmes (2010 BBC TV series) - Discussion Thread.
I doubt it. They're looking like they're going to be episodic, but with a few recurring themes.
It's probably best to watch the first episode though, as it introduces the new incarnations of the characters, their dynamic and apparently (from what I've been told) is one of the few (if any) versions of Sherlock Holmes that starts from the beginning of their relationship, rather than jumping in the middle. -

As soon as underworld/criminal organisation was mentioned (halfway during the episode), I knew Moriarty was behind it.
Sherlock Holmes fan through and through.
Any person who is familiar with sherlock holmes should know that Moriarty is the mastermind behind it all.
I know these episodes are long at 1hr 30 but why are they only making 3 episodes, are they very expensive/ testing the waters? -

I would think both although considering Doctor Who, I doubt it's too much of a strain on budget. I think it's mainly testing the water.
New drama and writers with proven track records. And I like this format, it suits this format. I'd hate to see 13 episode series' of this programme. That's just my opinion. -
Re: Sherlock Holmes (2010 BBC TV series) - Discussion Thread.Yes quality over quantity, its nice to have long episode it means they dont have to rush parts of the plot for what were quite complex stories.(Original post by Ape Gone Insane)

So what did you think of my skills of deduction in the modern world ?

And your intellect was dizzying.
Am I a good sidekick? Or simply a bridge between your intellect and the audience?

No you are in fact Watson. I deduced this by your sub title 'I'm not a gynaecologist but I'll have a look.' which relates to your modestly in your medical skills, as well as this your name alludes to your experience in Afghanistan as a soldier where you had nightmares of what you believed as the insanity at the primitive (ape) state of killing another being.
I think I can deduce that the number of episodes derives from the long episode duration and the ongoing cuts the BBC are making which equates to less risk being taking in making shows with a long episode count that loses popularity. It's a shame it wasnt a 6 episode series.
Also did anyone see the people in the background staring at the camera during the scenes outside the national gallery? Quite a place to film because you cant control all those people.Last edited by holmes221; 01-08-2010 at 23:56. -
Re: Sherlock Holmes (2010 BBC TV series) - Discussion Thread.
My high expectations, raised from the first episode, have been smashed by a far-fetched and needless over-elaborate and non-credible plot that simply makes no sense and leaves no room for Holme´s deduction skills, apart from the cypher code paraphernalia which turned out to be quite ridiculous.
I´m sorry but as much as I enjoyed the first episode, this one has been absolute ****. I´m quite disappointed

Hello. I stalk you.
Seriously though, have you been watching this (Sherlock Holmes)? I would have thought that you would have liked it.

No, I haven't been watching it. I forgot about the first episode (and the complete lack of advertising suggests the Beeb don't exactly have a lot of confidence in it) and since then I couldn't really be bothered to catch up.
I'd much rather watch the masterful Poirot of a Sunday evening than Sherlock Holmes anyway.
You are too clever, Holmes.
