Oooooh recommend me some. I love apocalypse films.

They were Delicatessen, City of Lost Children, and La jetée.

Same here, can't stand The Notebook or The Time Traveler's Wife, but Titanic is like a whole genre for itself! :p:

I must admit I do love the old romance movies though:

> Casablanca
> An Affair To Remember
> Breakfast At Tiffany's

I know what you mean, it's all romcoms nowadays *sigh*. I could listen to the Titanic score all day :moon:
How about we do this, they used to do this on a film board I went on. Every week, there is a film that we all decide on, and we all have to watch it, and on a designated day of each week we discuss the film we've all watched. Could work!
Billy Pilgrim
I'm really digging Kaufman at the moment. Eternal Sunshine and Synecdoche are quite incredible pieces of cinema. David Lynch as well; Mullholland Drive is just...wow.

I tried watching Mull Dr...:facepalm2: I found the acting too dire and cheesy to take seriously.

I'll start off a discussion now then

Anyone seen City of God?, saw it last week and I have to say that it was one of my favourite films ever, yet no-one i know has ever even heard of it

I suggest you guys go watch it now

City of God was a film recommended to me by many, but it took me ages to get round to watching it

Man, it sure was incredible! Definitely down on a list of best films ever made, as big a call that is!

And anyone who hasn't yet seen Memento or Spirited Away, you definitely gotta go see them soon...

I'd expect quite a few people have heard of city of god as it was a pretty big film when it was about - got a really massive release after festivals and there's even a spin off series called "city of men" (i think its called that)

It is a wonderful film though....for a film in a relatively similar vein thats just as awesome try La Haine.

Delicatessen is one of my absolute favourite films in the world ever

I love Delicatessen, although I'd say it's more a general dystopian film than a post-apocalyptic one. iLa Jetée sounds great, sounds similar to Slaughterhouse-Five. Thanks for the recommendation
A) Has anybody seen Belle Epoch? I'm desperate, but I can't rent it or download it. :nooo:

B) How would we pick what movie to watch if we were to do a weekly discussion?

Search for it on www.stagevu.com, should be there!

And, on the other site I went on, someone managed the whole thing and had a list of all the members. Then each week, the next member on the list picked a film. For example:

Member A
Member B
Member C
Member D

A would choose for the first week, B for the second etc.

That could get to be an incredibly long list! :eek3:

a beautiful mind
all about my mother
silence of the lambs
Love the thread. :awesome:

I have had The Cove sitting on my skyplayer now for about a week. I really want to watch it but I just can't seem to find the time at the minute.

Ape Gone Insane
I see that interview. You could see Cloverfield essentially from a totally different prespective and they are reflecting modern society there too. Something bad happens and we all automatically take out our mobiles and film it. :p:

Ah, I didn't know they were written by a ghost writer. I dislike ghost writers. I watched a documentary on Bourne and how it translates over to reality. And..well, it's pretty realistic. This was such a good documentary and I've forgotten the name :frown: They went through all the U.S. secret programs of training assassins through drugs, hypnosis and brainwashing and finding ways to activate assassins with command words. It was intriguing. They also examined Bourne's various abilities, highlighting that the marines went through similar training (building pain tolerance, fighting bad guys with a rolled up magazine :teehee: )

I agree with Quantum. I sort of rushed that film in there without thinking but I love the realistic and gritty nature of Casino Royale (if that makes sense) - the direction they took with that film was fantastic and fresh. I don't want to see Bond go down the drain or go back to the cheesy franchise it was under Pierce :awesome:

Yeah, the idea of the exact same events being looked at from a different perspective is something that really appeals to me, providing they leave enough time after the original. Cloverfield is such a great film (despite being hated by so many people :p:). I'm tempted to get it on Blu Ray now as I only have one BR film currently (The Hurt Locker).

Quite a few Ludlum books are written by ghostwriters. He died in 2001, leaving behind a host of unfinished manuscripts that people tightened up and published, usually anonymously. I don't have a problem with that; indeed, The Ambler Warning was published like that and that is a great book. What I do have a problem with is Lustbader butchering Bourne by whacking out 5 sequels that depict him as some sort of god. Sounds a good documentary though, wish you remembered the name. :p: Oh, and the unusual fighting is a type of Israeli combat called Krav Maga.

The next film I am going to watch is The Godfather II (:shh:). I shall report back with my findings and stuff.

I feel all the chat that aren't about films currently in the cinema should be merged into this one? It will stop discussions which are aimed at only a select few congesting the forum.
