Anyone Learning To Drive - Help Needed!
Okay so I just had my first 2 hour lesson with aa. it cost 28 pound and hour but I paid for four hours and got the fourth free so it works out at 21 pound an hour. I asked the instructor what discount he can give and he said 26 pound an hour if I pay for a block booking of 12 hours.

BUT Ive heard of people getting lessons with AA for 21/22 pounds. How come?

Is it worth it for me to pay this much. The instructor was good but he was chatting alot of crap and I think he wanted to waste time(or this could be because it was my first lesson and its necessary). He has a very good pass rate though.

I get 200pounds a month from working. That is if I dont spend a penny. The block booking would cost me 312 and although I have enough for the first booking, I wont have enough by the end of next month for the next booking.

Should I pay 26pounds? How much do you guys pay?

And most importantly; how many lessons minimum does a person need? Please help. I really dont know what to do. I could probably save over 150pound if I go to an independant instructor but are they as good?

    Thanks in advance

And if you have any q's just ask.
My main q is, should I be paying this much for driving lessons?

My lessons used to cost £18 an hour just to make you feel a bit better

But erm, yeah, try going with another driving school? Doesn't necessarily have to be with AA or BSM.

    Three years ago lol.
I think they are just as good, I also think it depends more on yourself than the driving school it itself.

Yeah but you probably, you know, gave a little payment on the side though? You have to remember that as a guy he can't do that so easily as we do!

I pay £21/£23 an hour, depending on whether I have two or one. You're getting a bad deal; change your instructor.

I'm just about to start driving. With student discount, they will cost 19 Pound for 2 hours. I am doing it with an intensive course driving school, although I am just paying for lessons when I want them. My advice would be to look for something similar - there are loads of intensive/fast track driving schools that, if you pay for the full course, work out a lot cheaper per lesson. AA sound very expensive. Good luck!

EDIT: 19 Pound for 1 hour

Mine was £23 per hour and I used to think it was expensive :lolwut:

Should have phoned around a bit before you had your first lesson.

My lessons are £20 with Acclaim.
I failed my first test due to nerves (my instructor has a good pass rate), I've had god knows how many lessons... depends on the person really. I know people who have passed with only 2 lessons under their belt.

You can always look around, prices vary and instructors vary. Mine is chatty but I drive better when talking, whereas my friend preferred silence when she was learning.

I just googled that! Thanks! And are the instructors good. Do they do too much talking...?

Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I think I was paying £10 for 50 mins when I did mine. Although I did just look for the cheapest company I could find.

My lessons cost me £17 an hour but this was bumped down to £15 later on....I was also charged nothing on the day of my test and used to get an hour free here and there.

You're paying way over the odds I'd say.

£28 an hour is a lot! mine are £22 and my instructor is really good, i think if you are struggling with the money you should leave him and find someone else and i think the number of lessons depends on the person, one of my friends only took 4 months to pass but another took nearly 3 years! i think it helps too if you have a car to practice on, my dad got me insured on his car and he's been really helpful but i think most people need at least 30 lessons
