u4m1r: Texas Method

Was bored so thought I might as well start a blog...

I've been lifitng weights for about 2 years, most of which wasted doing things like bicep curls and too much bench pressing. I started proper strength training in November 2009 with starting strength and squatted/deadlifted for the first time, until about Feb 2010. From Feb till June I did a the Coan/Philippi deadlift routine and the Ed Coan bench routine, and just heavy squats 5 x 5.

Four weeks ago I started the Texas Method and will be recording my progess in this log.

Current stats
Age - 18
Height - 5ft 8
Weight - ~87kg
Squat - 160kg
Bench - 122.5kg
Deadlift - 210kg
OHP - 80kg

Bodyfat - ~20-22%

Routine - Texas method

Monday - Volume day

Squat - 5 x 5
Bench - 5 x 5
Rows - 3 x 8
Speed Deadlift - 5 x 3

Wednesday - Recovery

Squat - 3 x 3
OHP - 5 x 5
Power Cleans - Work up to single
Chins

Friday - Intensity

Squat - 1,2 or 3 RM
Bench - 1,2 or 3RM
Deadlift - 1,2 or 3RM
Tricep + Upper back work.

Diet consists of anything and everything. Main aim is strength. Not too bothered about bodyfat, as long as my stomach doesn't come out further than my chest its all good lol. Would like to get a little stronger before going over 90kg though.

Will try to get some videos up soon.

EDIT: I started this blog late and was already on 4 weeks of Texas before, my starting lifts are listed below:

Squat - Started on 115kg for 5x5, PB was 155kg
Bench - Started on 80kg for 5x5, PB was 122.5kg
OHP - Started on 55kg for 5x5
Deadlift PB was 202.5kg

I think I'm going to yes, probably next week. I injured my back so won't be lifting in that competition now.

Ill start it really conservatively though, hopefully it won;t take long to get back to my usual

I like the look of that routine. Will keep an eye on this and see how you get on, may consider it for my next routine.

I'll be TMing soon too. Had to take a break, but I'll jump back on SS to be bring me back up to speed quickly. Then Texas Method.

It just seems like the logical step after SS tbh.
Or Madcow's.

Oh yeah, keep forgetting about that one. Madcow's seems pretty damn good too. Redhotbutter got to 180kg squat on that, you're on your way there now Smack.

How long do your squats take per session, Smack?

20 minutes, maybe? I rush through the first three sets, literally rack the bar, load up the plates, and squat again. Maybe take a minute or two before I attempt the fourth set. Maybe 1-2 minutes before I start the last set. Reapplying the chalk and belting up might take an extra minute or two...

At least I know that I've still got some left in me if I decide to take my time.

Was reading up on Madcows, seemed to work for most people. Would there be any point of maybe running Madcow's after I stop seeing progress on TM?

Any feedback on my form for the 3 lifts would be appreciated.

After that I did some assistance work
Dips 3 x 10
Pulldown 3 x 8
CG Pulldown 3 x 8
Tricep Pushdown 3 x 8
Over exaggerated lock out on the deadlift. No need for it, and I don't think it's a good idea to hyperextend the back under a heavy load anyway.

Thanks, would that be competition passable? How about the other two lifts?
