Oh yes, of course I will go and look around some colleges. I just want to learn as much about them as I can now so that I make the best of looking around them when I go (i.e.- I know what kind of things to realistically expect).
i think with most of the colleges you can just pay more and get a better room, the most expensive rooms are still usually cheaper than an average london room.
they said there's cooking facilities provided in rooms at downing. what do they mean by this, a toaster?
Don't know about Downing but we're allowed to bring a toaster and a kettle to our rooms as long as they are used on a tray.
Kettles, sandwich makers and toasters are allowed in the 'kitchen', but they only provide two hobs and a fridge to most people. You are allowed a fridge in your room if you have a medical condition that requires a lot of drugs to be refridgerated. As far as I know, there are only 4 rooms in Clare with access to an oven.
Clare is pretty rubbish if you like cooking for yourself, but I tend to anyway!

Is sharing a bathroom really not that bad? At my interviews (at Oxford) I was sharing a bathroom with some guy and the bath (there was no shower) was absolutley filthy, I don't know if it was just him being inconsiderate or if it was like that when we arrived Anyway, if I make my offer I'm definitely arming myself with a whole load of disinfectant and cleaning tools
Don't know, I share with 2 other guys and 2 girls, everyone seems to leave the bath in a decent state, though I think it's mainly me and the two girls who use the bath and the other two guys who shower. One girl is noticably better than the other, but we're talking about finding maybe 2 hairs in the bath. I think it's cleaned daily, but it may be only every other day. The main problem I find is that when someone leaves the window in the toilet open it's absolutely freezing, but I suspect that is the bedder.
At Clare they have to be kept in the kitchen, be not combination versions and be 800W or under. You usually need to have a good reason, but quite a few people seem to get them - you just need to ask permission first.
Nah, it's not that I'm worried about- I just like to be able to take ages getting ready in the bathroom if I need to. I tend to leave just enough time to get ready in the mornings and if I was having to wait around for a free shower or something I'd be late every day!
I wouldn't really want to share a bedroom either as I'm a very light sleeper, although the shared sets (shared study, seperate bedrooms) seem good. I'm just picky, but if going to a great university and a good college meant sharing a room/bathroom then i wouldn't really mind. It's worth it, I'd just like to see what's available and have en-suite if possible- it's not a major issue.
Robinson doesn't have en-suite for everyone, only some on each stair case have that bonus! Most are shared between two. The rooms themselves are lovely although the kitchens (at the top of every staircase) are a rather on the small side.
In terms of teaching, law will be taught in your faculty at the Sedgwick Site, so I wouldn't keep it's reputation for the subject as your number one priority though I'm sure information about the DOS and their interests will be on the website somewhere.
